White Winmar says;
Maybe he's done a "Templeton" and provided his club with compensation, knowing he's actually pretty stuffed. Just a thought.

Well that would Be very honourable of him to do that take one for the team and send the karma bus back to windy hil.

The thing footy players dont get is that their former teammates, coaches, staff and friends get over it, some of them very quickly, because its a job to them. The ones that get hurt the most are the supporters. I like my job and I couldnt care less when someone leaves but I love my footy club and those wounds dont heal easily.

So expect a pretty hostile reception when we play your new team Greedard. You throughly deserve it

BANG BANG
agree with your comments 100%......tough sh!t bj......you will get booed.....all the supporters think about is their next win.......if you end up biting us on the arse..all the more to hate your decision....maybe not you though....time will tell...but in the case of players changing clubs...time never heals the wounds.....

No hard feelings from me, certainly not while I don't know the inner workings of it all.

Thought it interesting Jimmy Hird says he will play mainly in the midfield, moving a bit around the ground, that sounds exactly what BJ desired. He had to 'wait his turn' this year and didn't get a shot in there until pretty late in the season, and maybe what his manager referred to when he mentioned 'opportunity'

Dunno, it's all surmising isn't it, but sure helps pass the off season ;)
Good luck with playing him in the midfield. He proved beyond doubt last year when Lenny was out that be ain't a midfielders left nut. Does not win his own footy and is below average below his knees
He is a great loose man in defense but u don't pay those guys 700k a year
Moved into the midfield around Rd 18 this year didn't he, against the Dogs?

The last six weeks of the season, while playing rotating through the midfield and forward.

Averaged 26 disposals, 8 contested possessions, 2.5 clearances, 9 score involvements, 1 goal, 1.5 assists per game.

I know where I'd play him.
He is simply the easiest bloke in the league to tag. He doesn't have the pace o the tank to outrun his tag and doesn't win the tight contested possessions.

Seriously, Maddog?
That is just clear and utter bulls*** - but each to their own I guess.
I have seen him win so many tight contested possessions. Hey let's just get the dreamtime bulls*** out of this discussion.

So when he was at his best this year, his output was still behind someone like Joey's season averages... He's obviously a very good player but 2 clearances a game isn't good enough to be considered an elite midfielder.
I think plenty of Bombers fans are in for a surprise, I get the feeling they think he is some kind of clearance specialist, Jobe will still be doing the majority of that work next year.

Four year deal with more than the Saint's 3 year deal- he went for the money. I don't care really, he has used his natural skills to play good games, but in the last couple of years hasn't busted a gut..maybe should have taken a leaf out of Milne's book, and really put in to improve his game for the good of the team.

And also - for those who say how LOYAL Roo is - I want to know what he is on per game over the past three years.
AND This is how they do it:

Meanwhile, Essendon has refuted as "categorically false" comments made by former Bombers chairman Ray Horsburgh that he had told the club he would offer Goddard a job.

The Herald Sun reported today Horsburgh had offered the Bombers help in his role as chairman of transport company Toll. Under AFL rules, third-party deals cannot be offered to help clubs lure opposition players.

Essendon today said it had never "received or discussed any employment matter with Brendon other than his playing contract with the club".

"The suggestion that a third party or related party deal has been tabled to help secure Brendan is factually incorrect," it said in a statement.

Oooh I am so sure it is categorically false - lets se where BJ works in the next 12 months?

Who says the job offers are for Goddard himself in terms of employment?

For your consideration two family members maybe seeking employment and have struggled to rejoin the workforce, so it could be a third party deal with the third parties becoming the employees not the player.

A new twist on the footballers wives earning high salaries for the job of club receptionist methinks.

Hope they have to employ his jailbird brother and he hocks all their ill gotten trophies at cash converters. Corrupt maggots get their karma eventually. Hope he takes a TOLL on the club. I would love this to blow up with a Carlton style rorting investigation. 10 years of struggle would ease my mind no end. The callers on SEN were ringing in suggesting that Goddard has ben ill treated by our coach because he suggested his output wasn't great in the last 40 games?

Good luck to him. Decision a no brainer. Hope he has a good year but struggles against us. The one thing the Dons will soon work out is that he is slow, no great below his knees and cant change direction quickly. He will soon end up on the HBF where he can player better than most in the AFL.

you should have added good on a HBF and needs his coach needs to free him up or manufacture some other way to get him into the game. He can really be good but he's not worth $700K per annum for four years or whatever they are paying him.

Is Brendon Goddard worth more than Swan? Buddy? Stevie J?

After feeling aggrieved by his departure yesterday, I'm now over it.

It's no secret, his form has been pretty inconistent since 2010.

Is he really worth all that money Essendon are now going to have to pay him? Time will tell.

But imagine if we matched Essendon's offer and held onto him. The pressure would be not only be on him to show his worth, but also on the club for throwing the chequebook with almost blind faith.

I'm quite impressed by the fiscal responsibility shown by the club on this situation.

Yes, we have lost one of our favourite sons, but perhaps we have been unburdened at the same time.

For me, this is the biggest worry. Free Agency is going to see more champions move clubs for cash and it will be the young kids and a few older ones with their favorite player on the duffle coat with confused loyalties. BJ is the tip of the iceberg, in time, we will see less passionate supporters - a bit like the NRL. I think genuine passion is what seperates the codes.
Also think the best players will be attracted to the bigger clubs and the weaker will struggle.
Sad day as Paul Roos says.

My rational self sees it's a no brainer for Goddard, more money over a longer period of time.

This side also sees how it was an easy decision for the saints to make.

My one eyed St Kilda supporter self sees him as a traitor and feel sick that Essendon have poached one of ours for nothing

My thoughts exactly he was not that impressive in 2011 when Lenny was out for the year. Not sure he will set the world on fire in the midfield but good luck to him. What is more disappointing is that on a number of occasions this year he seemed like he was playing in first gear and being a bit too careful in one on one contents. He was prepared to move on for a better deal well before the end of the season and played accordingly.

Really? less passionate - I doubt it… bigger fish have left the Saints in the past…

We all loved Hamill and Gehrig… now Dons fans will love BJ, goes both ways, pretty sure no-one on here will be less passionate because we lost a good player… Ball going to Collingwood probably amplified passion if anything, (with a tinge of rage)

NRL average crowds are well under half of the AFL, maybe it's just a s*** game in comparison.

Goddard went for the money, simple as that. Good luck to him. This BS about chance to play for a premiership is just that; complete BS. Bombers are no closer to a flag than about half a dozen mid-tier teams between 7 and 14th.

He was a good player, not a great player for us....not within a bulls roar of greats like Lenny, Roo, Harvey, etc...

I think this will morph supporters into not giving two hoots about players and just supporting the team - if that makes sense.

Whilst free agency is here I certainly do not agree with it however I am not entirely thrilled we just lost one of my favourite players although it was the best thing for all involved.

That being said. f*** off Goddard.
