Where to play Siposs?
Watters tried Siposs in the backline for the last fews games of the season and I thought he performed admirably.
We also know he has a beautiful long kick and can take a strong grab in the forward line, but he isn't quite tall enough to be a key forward and is more suited as a medium sized forward.
So where do we play him in years to come?

Sainter for life.

Could def play CHF or wing. Apparently has grown 2-3 cm and is about 192cm now. Love how he playes though, every time he gets it he makes things happen. Great by foot, could do what BJ does for half a million less.

Was thinking the same thing. Goddard never had a fixed position. I'm hoping he's as versatile.andrewg wrote:could do what BJ does for half a million less.
He definitely has the potential to develop into a player of Goddard's caliber.

Re: Where to play Siposs?
I suspect at any given time we'll have either Siposs or Dunell at half back. Both read the play very well and can take a grab. Dunell is probably quicker and more agile and Siposs stronger and more damaging.
2013 team is shaping up something like this
B: Simpkin, *Recruit, Dempster
HB: Fisher, Gwilt, Siposs
C: Gilbert, Hayes, Montagna
HF: Saad, Riewoldt, Schneider
F: Milne, Wilkes, Stanley
Foll: McEvoy, Dal Santo, Steven
Int: Armitage, Dunell, Geary, Ledger
Depth: Ray, Kosi, Newnes, Milera, Ross, Curren, Jones, Blake, Ferguson, Gram, Markworth, Minchington, *Ruck recruit, *Midfield recruit
I am a bit concerned as to where Simpkin fits in if we do snag a full back. He might need to worth hard on his offensive game if he is to keep his spot since we already have so many players capable of taking the third forward.

The way plays, balanced, strong and gutsy overhead and seems to have time without being quick he reminds me of Sam Fisher. Aad the fact he can kick a goal when needed he would be ideal to groom into Fisher's half back role.

Re: Where to play Siposs?
No one is saying he is the answer, just an option to replace BJ. As a club we need to move forward. BJ is taking the cash, fine deal with it. The reality is we need to field a team in 2013 building towards another grand final tilt in the next 5 years.SainterK wrote:I hope his shoulders are broad enough to handle being the 'answer'
Siposs has to be discussed in that equation simple as that.
IMO Siposs will contribute as much as BJ did and you never know, he might actually stick with his club no matter what.
As of today Siposs has won as many GF as BJ.
Re: Where to play Siposs?
I've always thought Siposs could potentially play the HFF role that Hamill did. But he did look good along half back, so maybe he can play a similar role to what Goddard did. If Siposs can also be a 20 goal a year player - with only brief stints in the forward line - that would be a huge win for us.

Re: Where to play Siposs?
He did play FB for a lot of this year though. Ideally I think Gilbert would be better suited to taking the athletic tall forwards but he never seems to get defensive roles except on smalls. We're in an awkward situation where we have five tallish defenders who aren't really suited to playing as a true key position player. Fisher does is best but he's also by far the best rebounder.borderbarry wrote:Not sure about Gwilt at CHB. He is the shortest on that half back line.
I think what we'll see is the new recruit taking the number one power forward (the likes of Cloke, J Riewoldt, Petrie, Pavlich etc) and then any combo of Simpkin, Fisher, Dempster, Gwilt and Gilbert taking the remaining talls on a case-by-case basis.

Re: Where to play Siposs?
If it is true that he is 192cm.. Full Forward
Great kick for goal, knows how to time leads, the best FFs are those that can mark but can also win the ball on the ground
I recon he could be a beauty up there...
But... time will tell.. I just hope he develops again next year, because he looks like he could be anything

Re: Where to play Siposs?
Siposs to play quarter back 7th man in defence (with the occasional run fwd) for sure.
Id say the coaching staff are already 6 months ahead of us - they trialled Siposs playing this role as a cover for BJ - and were so impressed it made them more comfortable about letting BJ go and not paying the big bucks.
