Joel Cross - Magarey Medallist - recruit him NOW!
2009 - Box Hill Hawks - A. Todd Medal (reserves competition B&F)
2010 - Scoresby FC - Scoresby B&F winner, Runner-up EFL B&F
2011 - South Adelaide FC - Advertiser Player of the Year Award, South Adelaide B&F winner
2012 - South Adelaide FC - Advertiser Player of the Year Award, Magarey Medal.
He is 25, and can clearly play. Is not the likeliest of "looking" footballers, but has dominated every competition he has played in in the last four years. Who's to say he couldn't succeed at AFL level as well?
Dal/Joey/Goddard (!)/Hayes won't be around for ever, I think this guy is worth a punt! Why not??

He seems to have been highly visible for the last 4 years, must be some reason he's stayed in the small ponds

Re: Joel Cross - Magarey Medallist - recruit him NOW!
Have not seen him play, but to write him off due to having been around for four years is a nonsence.
Terry Milera was around in the SANFL for at least that long with a significant amount of time being at reserve grade level.

I thought that retard that I always get mixed up with Jared Petrenko won it?
Either way. Both are awful players.

Looks excellent!!!!!!!
Quick! wins his own footy, can kick a goal, reads the play and the ruckman taps and will get even better with some preseasons under his belt. Could be an option if BJ goes.

This might be why he only played a handful of senior games at BH....or why South was the only SANFL club to show an interest in him. But he keeps proving the doubters wrong by literally dominating wherever he plays!gringo wrote:He looks a bit small would be my guess.

Too much emphasis on stature these days....some players LOOK like they could or should be great footballers but flop...others don't but clearly have something and deserve a chance!

Brent Harvey, David Rodan etc all play well but there is still discrimination when it come to little guys. Is it Valenti that was on melbournes list and plays VFL? -there are actually a couple of good small guys in the VFL.
I'm happy with anyone who plays well it's just recruiters don't seem to like them.

He's a pygmy, but clearly has ability. Worth a look?

Brodie Atkinson had a reasonable debut and was dropped under strange circumstances I reckon.first rounder who got cut with 1 season, two games, a Rising Star nomination... Interesting. We kept bonfide retards twice as long...

Apparently another mistake by the Saints.
Sooner you get a job there and sort it out the better hey.
Haqven't heard your calls on the 2013 Darling yet.
Dare to make a call without the benefit of hindsight???????

Re: Joel Cross - Magarey Medallist - recruit him NOW!
What? Yeah, some good players won it, but that doesn't change the fact that some relatively poor players did too, which is what addresses matrix's original statement. For instance, Brett Backwell? Jeremy Clayton, Paul Thomas? James Allan won three but has never been drafted.Schwarta wrote:Brett Ebert, Andrew Jarman, Josh Francou, Nathan Buckley, Gilbert McAdam, John Platten and Malcolm Blight say "hi" back.bergholt wrote:Brodie Atkinson says hi. In fact, only three Magarey Medallists in the last twenty years - since Buckley in 92 - have kicked on as AFL players afterwards: Glenn Kilpatrick, Josh Francou and Brett Ebert. Francou was good, but the other two aren't exactly world-beaters. Most of the rest of them weren't even drafted; some of them were drafted but weren't good enough.
It's not exactly a foolproof predictor of AFL quality.
The Sandover is slightly better, thanks to Priddis and Ballantyne in recent years. The Liston similar, with Sam Mitchell, Pods and Aaron Edwards. But for all of them, most of the winners just weren't AFL standard. Odds are that Joel Cross is the same.

Re: Joel Cross - Magarey Medallist - recruit him NOW!
Agreed, no one wins the award with out having been a very good player. I love how if a guy gets delisted from a club they all of a sudden couldn't play or are spuds. I have a mate who missed TAC cup due to a broken collarbone and ended up playing ammos. he probably could have made it but once he got on with his life risking everything in the faint hope that he might get a chance wasn't appealing anymore. There are heaps in lesser comps that had talent but the opportunities didn't come.matrix wrote:so shite players win the leagues best player award?

so much has to go right to get a career out of footy. Just getting yourself into a team without a raft of similar types is difficult let alone showing yourself to be worthy of regular senior games.
Re: Joel Cross - Magarey Medallist - recruit him NOW!
Yup, agreed. He's probably very good compared to everyone who posts on this board but that doesn't mean he's a shoe-in at AFL level - as the OP was suggesting.matrix wrote:f****** hell im not saying draft him
