Best most 'consistent' team won IMO.
I said Hawthorn wouldn't win right at the start of the season only to be labelled unobjective and bias by our resident know it all in Plugger
Hawthorn are a great team but there's something about them... under finals pressure (prelim stage) they just don't go on with it. They fell apart against Collingwood when they should have won last year, barely got over Adelaide when they shd have won comfortably and then today. Their game to lose.
Cant remember that. Would love to see the post. Wow. 18 sides and you got it right by 7 points. Funny you didnt mention it before the game.
Sydney will win the flag.

It can't be true can it?
If we'd had an extra $800K to spend on beefing up our bottom six et al, we could have very conceivably won those 5 premierships in the noughties that GT once talked about.
The expense of living in Sydney has been long espoused as a reason for the Sydney Swans having a 9.8% increase in their salary cap over their more well established AFL counterparts. It is now time to ask why?
The extra salary cap room Sydney enjoys has enabled the club to build its much vaunted “bloods” culture and remain in the finals for 13 of the last 15 years – but it’s time for the Sydney Swans to stand on their own two feet...
In recent seasons the Sydney Swans have used the extra salary cap not only to pay its draftees and rookies on minimum payments, but also to attract and sign up-and-coming players such as Shane Mumford, and to ensure the club retains its established stars.
It equates to giving the Sydney the capability of having an extra three solid $250,000 AFL players on its list, or two $400,000 players, or maybe just one $800,000 superstar....
The Swans need to be weaned off this $800,000 teat...
It has made the Swans list almost un-raidable for other AFL teams as there is always “space” on the Swans list for just a little more. It is no wonder such a strong culture has been able to grow when salary cap pressures seldom exist...

Bloods spirit!?! Crap!

South Melbourne bought their flags in the thirties by hiring mercinaries whom the press of the day dubbed the 'foreign legion'. The demise of South Melbourne, and the creation of the artifcial Sydney Swines..., they've learnt at least one lession from history...
'Pull down the thunder from the skies'!?! Crap!
More like 'pull the wool over our eyes'!
One thing I have to concede though... that six day break to the Dawks (despite being the higher placed team) was a much more subtle 'intervention' than 'the Barry Hall incident was in play and low impact' absolute howler that the AFL came up with last time around...

There will be high fives at AFL House between the Fat Greet and his mutant offsider.
"That shafting of Hawthorn in the PF fixturing probably did the trick!".
"Great win for our marketing vision".

well it's in your history all knowing one... go look it up
and the margin isn't relevant... like I said, on the big stages in the finals, the Hawks are unreliable. Even if they had won, the point remains valid.
unfortunetly your nasty, smug, baseless post hit a nerve at the time.

Re: Sydney will win the flag.
It annoys me more that Geelong conquered that unbeatable St. Kilda team in 2009! Same issue as Geelong had the previous year, inaccuracy in front of goal. If both teams kicked better in the first half the eventual winners may not have "got a sniff".Sainternist wrote:I must admit, I'm jealous of Hawthorn's success. To think that they also had only one Premiership before the 1971 GF - and now have a swag of them - makes me sick.
It still annoys me how they conquered that unbeatable Geelong team in 2008 and the following year we couldn't.
But heck, if we get a good quality and closely fought game of footy on Saturday, I won't be complaining about who wins or loses.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

They've already shafted Haw with the Prelim scheduling.

Hawks are really going to have to win it the hard way against these pampered parasites.

Hope they lose by less than a kick.
That way, they can go on about how they were robbed, that they don't get enough free kicks, that the Vic refs were plotting a conspiracy against them.
That being said, I think they'll win.

You are old fashioned Leo.Leo.J wrote:Call me old fashioned Dave, but I need something more reputable than the above. Before I start mouthing off I need something rock solid.
Fair point though. So how's about...
Based on the bizarre 'costs of living' logic (term 'logic' used loosely), Geelong and the Adelaide sides should have their caps reduced. (Though to be fair, the Adelaide sides could then claim the cut back again, and then some, as a hardship allowance for having to live in Adelaide. )BEMUSED rather than outraged would describe West Coast chief executive Trevor Nisbett's reaction.
Three times he has seen players lured east to a Sydney side with a salary cap boosted by a 9.8 per cent cost of living allowance.
Talls Mark Seaby and Matt Spangher wanted more opportunity, but the cash Sydney splashed on ruckman Jason Ball helped seal his deal.
The Sydney allowance is about player retention and cost of living pressures.
Yet Sydney has 10 players on its list lured from other clubs. Some were attracted by huge deals, such as ex-Geelong ruckman Shane Mumford.
When West Coast spoke to the AFL about skyrocketing Perth property and rent prices, its submission for its own salary cap allowance was basically laughed at.
Greater Western Sydney also has been awarded an AFL-funded cost of living subsidy, plus up to $1 million more to spend on an expanded playing list.
It means the Giants are entitled to pay about $11.3 million in 2012 compared with $9.4 million for clubs without special assistance....
http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/sport/ ... 6422963489
I mean, fair dinkum, the average AFL wage is ~$267K p.a. Now I can't speak for the Swines boys, but I know that I personally could feed, clothe myself, support my little habit (whoops, wrong club ), fuel-up the V8 ute, put a nice roof over my head, on that sort of money...
The Swines are an artifical plastic creation propped up by the AFL, not a real club with nearly 140 years of history, tradition and soul.
Bloods! That's all hype and crap,
Their success rides on the salary cap.

The AFL is an absolute joke...it's not a sport anymore it's entertainment.
Sports aren't generally fixed by the ruling body.
The ruling body normally tries to stop match fixing.
