Dons likely to delist 4-5 players to fit BJ in..

Looking like there is a pretty reasonable chance he could move to the dons (makes me sick to my stomach, pies/dons are my most hated teams)
Almost none of those players mentioned interest me. Possible Gumbleton (worth taking a risk on a former pick 3 who had a reasonable end to this year I think, particularly given our lack of young talls).
- happy to hear others make a case for the other players?
Possible trade idea
Goddard for: Bombers 2nd round pick (around 29 I think) + Gumbleton + Pears/Hooker (would love Carlyle/Bellchambers but cant see bombers letting them go). Possible push for 3rd round pick as well (around 45) for our 4th pick (around 67?)
So BJ & pick 67 for pick 29, 45, Gumbleton and Pears/Hooker - Would bombers do this?
Alternatively, we basically are swapping Goddard for pick 12 through free agency (which could be used for Caddy or Hickey rumours suggest..).

you do realise loading up on essendon players means we would have to delist players. who would you delist to make room for all those players you suggest?bhtay1 wrote:Recent article:

No trade will be done with the Bombers. Why would they give up a wanted player for someone they could get for nothing?
If Hille gets squeezed out, could be a worth a look late in the draft as a backup for McEvoy.

Did Jake Naill write this story by himself or was it co-written by the Media Manager at Essendon?
NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

Really?
They already had no depth to speak of.
Not sure they will be contending next year either to be honest, just an opinion...

Paying Goddard 800k a year will hurt their list in the long run and he's not the difference between them finishing 11th and playing top 4 vying for a flag. Strange move by the Bummers IMO. They should be trying to move on younger players whom will come cheaper.SainterK wrote:Really?

I think they think they are closer than they are perhaps?

Well if we are going to pay 650K we must think we are pretty close to. The more I think about it the sillier that money is. Hope the papers are wrong if we keep him.
Santo
I would be interested to know who the highest paid player on our list is if BJ leaves. Riewoldt said to be on 500k and I couldn't see anyone on more than that with the exception of possibly Dal Santo.plugger66 wrote:

So the team that gives us Lovett with ringing endorsements takes Goddard for free ...

So if the Dons use their first pick on Daniher, what would we end up getting?

Paying him more than anyone else on their list. Paying him more than the Brownlow Medal winning Captain.Old Mate wrote:Paying Goddard 800k a year will hurt their list in the long run and he's not the difference between them finishing 11th and playing top 4 vying for a flag. And possibly jettisoning popular clubmen in order to fit him in (eg, we're all told that the Bombers players love Gumbleton after what he's been through)
I certainly hope that if BJ does go to Tullamarine that he is able to eat pressure for breakfast

Doesnt sound like it is free to me. And they certainly arent responsible in us taking Lovett. We can only blame ourselves.

the pick after our normal draft pick still 13.Munga wrote:So if the Dons use their first pick on Daniher, what would we end up getting?
Re: Dons likely to delist 4-5 players to fit BJ in..
Free? To get him they need to pay a massive salary, and we get a solid draft pick as compensation. Not exactly free.Waltzing St Kilda wrote:So the team that gives us Lovett with ringing endorsements takes Goddard for free ...
There won't be a trade, but the Bombers who are closest to filling our needs are Hille (backup ruck/forward) and Hooker (196cm key back). I'd be happy if we got either for a reasonable price, but Hooker is pretty unlikely.

Just because somebody advertises the Sydney harbour bridge for sale doesn't mean you have to buy it.Waltzing St Kilda wrote:So the team that gives us Lovett with ringing endorsements takes Goddard for free ...

It's irrelevant as he's not going anywhere.

I like Gumby. There, I've said it. I know it's irrelevant to the Goddard deal but he's been offered one year which is pretty ordinary. If he got his body right, he could be a very powerful kpp. We need a replacement for Roo and this guy could be it.
