Personally I couldn't care less.
Best case scenario club makes some $$ I go to NZ a couple of times.
Worst case it doesn't work and the AFL scrap the idea.

Fantastic news. The club will create history in hosting the first match (for premiership points) overseas.

I'm actually entertaining in the thought of going over there, as I've yet to visit NZ.

Would be great if the Saints could end up winning the support of people over there.

Pretty much exactly the same size as Etihad.


This is a great move by the Saints.

Anyone who thinks Melbourne can sustain 10 teams @ $100m revenue each (which is where Collingwood are heading in 4-5 years) is kidding themselves. The state's economy isn't big enough to support $1b of revenue among 10 AFL clubs.

Inevitably there are going to be fewer teams in Melbourne. Or such a massive discrepancy in resources that it will be like the Premier League, and only 4-5 Victorian clubs really have any chance of success.


People complaining that we lost games in Tasmania and it cost us a Top 4 position - read Freo's banner on the weekend.

"Anywhere, anytime".


This club may not exist in 20 years - there won't be any games to lose!


We are making ourselves infinitely stronger with this move. If we can build up to 2 or 3 matches a year, a local membership of 2000-3000 members, sponsorship from some NZ businesses and recruiting, junior football and community links, it will grow our revenue stream, boost our profile and ensure that we are a part of the AFL's long term expansion plans.

This makes us a team that must survive in the competition - unlike those others that will not.

Explain how the supporters are dudded? The Club has committed to your membership having the exact same amount of games you can attend in Melbourne as last year.

Thats why this isnt going to last IMO. It isnt like The Hawks or even the Tigers. They are at least playing in places that know what AFL is. And can imagine next year if we also have 6 interstate games.

It is something different and I guess you have to explore different income streams, however I struggle to see any long term benefit.

And why Sydney? Why not Gold Coast? Surely it's better from our perspective (membership in NZ, if any) that we dish out a flogging?

Few locals I know over there expect it to be a sellout- especially with it being ANZAC day.

There is no way it will be that small.
Windies get behind any sporting event, much like Melbourne in that respect.
