Puss in boots - the Scarlett pimple

Post: # 1261171Post Enrico_Misso »

What a shame one of the Dockers didn't give Scarlett a verbal spray after the siren to denigrate the end of his career.
Then he would know how it felt.

But then again what sort of lowlife scum would give a decorated player a verbal spray like that?
I can only think of one person low enough to do that.

Why. Had a great career. Wish we had someone like him. Just a typical jealous post.

We did. Max Hudghton. Ten times the player and person Scarlett ever was.

But sadly in the real world of AFL "scumbags" are often brilliantly gifted footballers, and are recruited for this, not their behaviour, demeanour etc. I could compile a whole list of "scumbag dogs" who (if we're honest) we would have LOVED to have had on our list. The Harvey incident apart, Scarlett (IMHO) was a brilliant full back, and I would have LOVED to see him and Max together on the backline.

lol - Max was the best fullback we have had since Frawley, but not in the same League as Scarlett

6 All Australian
3 Premierships

Might be a prick, dont know, but certainly has been probably the best fullback since Silvagni.

Apart from the obvious hurt of the insult to Banger, I have no issues with Scarlett. I was at Kardinia Park the day that he played on Fraser Gehrig and went upfield to score a goal! gave the "G train" a spray and a half on his way back! I hated being on the wrong end of it all, but by gum if he had been one of our blokes, I would have LOVED it!

Great player, but I didn't appreciate all of his off the ball smacks on Riewoldt… If he was cited for all of them, he would have missed another 50 games.

Mouthing off to Harves after his last game of footy probably doesn't endear him to most saints fans.

Classic case of a great player but a dog s*** person.

His (admittedly) glittering career is scattered with dogshit acts of thuggery and basic douchebaggery. I still would have liked him in our side though.

Yeah lets admit it, we all would have liked Scarlett in our team.

A bit like Milne. Would fkn hate him if he didn't play for the Saints. (Dont think that much of him as it is - personal issue from many years ago).

Silvagni's the most overrated player to pull on a boot. Lockett owned him many a time. He'd be nothing with the current rules of hands in the back, holding the man and arm chopping.

Regardless of his achievments, Scarlett is scum, I'll never forget that prick sledging Banger. Good riddance, hope the social misfit falls off the face of the planet now he's a nobody.

Ask any key forward of the last decade who was a tougher opponent. You'll get the same answer every time and it won't be Scarlett. In fact, Scarlett probably never played on any of them.

In my opinion, over 25 years of watching football Max Hudghton is the most underrated player I've ever seen, while Scarlett is the most overrated.

I don't doubt that he used to be a really good footballer, but he is easily my most hated footballer.
I'm clearly bitter about everything Geelong these days, but Matty Scarlett is a terrible bloke regardless
of what you think about his footy club.

Scarlett was just as good as Silvagni but would give SOS the nod as games were more one on one way back then and SOS could also play forward.

I actually thought Harves was a bit thin skinned in that incident. According to Snarlett, he sledged him during the game and Harves took it badly and refused to shake his hand after the game.

I tend to agree... I hated Scarlett for it but Rob Harvey wasn't exactly a church mouse on the field.
Was known to be a reasonable sledger in his day.

you realise that makes no sense, right? the rules were what they were and he played inside them, by and large, in the era of the highest goal tallies of all time, and did a pretty good job. what do the current rules have to do with that?

may as well say that baldock would be a s*** centre half forward these days because he was about milney's height. it's true and also completely irrelevant to how good he was.

He dressed up like a good bloke for mad Monday. That's the word from Sleepy Hollow.

No one recognised him. Even his mum.

Max was a good player who got everything out of him self as an undersized FB when Shanners left, Scarlett was a rebounding defender like Sam Fisher -a fairer comparison. Fisher is a brilliant rebounding defender with good spoiling and marking ability but a good bloke. So prefer him every time.

The closest thing to Scarlett we have is Tom Simpkin, hard at the ball and the man gets in faces, hurts you when he hits you with a bit of mongrel. I hope Simpkin has hate posts from his days marauding the forwards of the comp for a decade when he retires.

At the time it was widely rumoured that Harvs hadn't exactly covered himself in glory sledging Bartel that day.

It wasn't Harvey's last game either.
