Jones had some huge upside, he had endurance & pace, he was also a clean tagger, ok he cant kick BUT his disposal by hand is virtually 100%. Without Clint Jones in the side you get the wasteful situation like last week against the blues NDS is forced to do a tagging role.
I think the opposite, I don't think we can afford to have a player starting in the middle who can't kick…
There's only 3 midfielders starting in the centre square, they all have to be good footballers.
At least if you have Joey or Dal doing a run-with role they will still get the footy, only they will use it well instead of wheeling around doing a 360 looking for someone to handball to every time.

Just read over the free agency rules, looks like we wont see a second list of delisted players until after free agency. Those 4 delisted players had no free agency currency for us. How many will we turn over?

Zac only had one good year imo 09 and that was due to the people around him not him as a player... Clarke actually has some skill and some guts.. zac lacked this. when clarke is on he's great just wish he could be a little more consistent.

good luck to clarke at another club, not a fit for us but i'm sure he's massive upside would slot into another list in the bottom half. Could be used as a good leader amongst younger players. His courageous efforts during his 3 games this year will be missed by the few that lack the b@lls to go back with the flight or throw a fist in.. i reckon sheeds might be able to get the best out of him.

Let's just say something happens, our destired players go elsewhere, and all we end up with is some raw kids?

I'd like to see just what they can secure before they cut our depth.

Jimmy or Fisher get injured again, then what?

We can delist players after we pick up newbies and trade week can't we?

Honestly we can cover those players pretty easily. Between Gilbert, Dempster, Simpkin, Gram, Siposs, Dunell, maybe Blake and possibly Ferguson we can cover the loss of a tallish/medium defender or two. I'm sure Gilbert or Dempster would do no worse against the big forwards than Gwilt has.

Your argument works for rucks and tall forwards, but other than that we can cover most positions fairly well. We don't need to hang on to poor players as depth.

I reckon Gwilt struggled big time on the key forwards. Definitely not a full back.

Sorry, but right here and now we only have ONE player that can play well on big forwards = Sam Fisher

Good teams have two big forwards.

Simpkin has been a great find, and maybe, just maybe if he can improve his strength he may be able to play on big forwards consistently well. But not yet, or next season. Simpkin is our third tall key defender for 2013, and not No 1 or 2.

Gwilt while strong is just too short.

We NEED a genuine big defender for 2013 who is ready to play.

When we play the Hawks next year we need someone on Buddy and on Roughead.

I think Simpkin is ideally suited to play as a second backman, medium to tallish rather than as a gorilla.

Def need a gorilla back

Noted tonight that Zac destroyed Hawkins. Zac does have a very good finals record.

Zac was the reason the cats kicked three in the second quarter. Ubbsh flanger gave them momentum.

everyone knows we need a quality big defender...

Why do people keep posting that fact as if they have just discovered it as fact......

this place is knobsville sometimes...maybe even a lot of times...

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

Knobhead may take offence to that. 8-)

I don't think Dawson was in Freo's best. The only reason Hawkins didn't kick a goal was because Geelongs supply to their forward line was disgraceful

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

No. He played on Hawkins all night, beat him and was in the best. Just wishing doesn't make it true.

Interesting

I have always rated Raph's unawareness as costly but though a rol forward would be possible. He actually was creative and seems to find players leading when kicking to forward unlike many in the side.

He also is another marking option and is not frightened to throw himself at the contest. Juast the wrong field position is my guess to his poorer games.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

it's an interesting theory. the only problem with it is that three successive coaches played him in defence. this suggests that either all three of them were wrong, or that he wants to play in defence and everyone realises that's the only position for him.

What position did Raph play in before arriving at St.Kilda? I doubt if it would have been defence. He was considered to be one of the best footballers to come out of the Territory. I personally would like to see him tried as an on baller/ruck rover type.

I think he was a forward...
