It is believed that Essendon has shown the most interest in Goddard, but the Bombers are understood to be reluctant to commit to a deal over four or five years in the vicinity of $800,000 a season.

Many clubs, including Geelong, have registered an interest in Goddard but almost all have so far baulked at his price.

It is believed Goddard's preference is to remain in Melbourne.

All of this sounds feasible so I give this article some merit.

Question remains whether BJ is going to go elsewhere in Melbourne for $750k or stay with us for $550k (what I reckon we'll end up offering him) and the likelihood of the captaincy for the next 3-5 years.

Will partly depend on how the man management goes during the free agency period, but at this stage my guess he'll stay.

Pelchen is a known steely operator, I think we're just seeing a bit of a stand off for whatever reason, I don't believe he has intentions of leaving.

i think the club would be stupid to try not to contract him for life, basically to what? 32 years old and then at the start of his 4th year start talks if he wants to keep going etc
why offer him 2 or 3
