For f**k's sake surely if they're only 10-20k apart the deal can be done??? Is your source reliable?
Haha as if it's over a lousy 20K. If it is and BJ is this stubborn then you have to wonder if he really wants to stay.

We’re all guessing however there could be a scenario where it was over a lousy 20K, BJ really did want to stay and his position was justified.

Hyperthetical. Another club offers 700K and Saints offer 500K. BJ says "I want to stay but that’s just too much money to forego; you need to bring it up to 520K". Standoff is reached with BJ taking the view I’m already taking a big enough hit; I want the Saints to show they really want me by finding that extra 20K.

IF that was the scenario then I would not regard his stance as being stubborn at all.

But like I said, we’re all guessing 8-)

andrewg wrote:To be honest I will be the first at the gates to see him leave. The age said he is on 550k this year and IMO not worth more than 600. 550 is still a little to much for his output over the last two years. When I think that no player at Geelong has been payed over 500k for the last five years (bartel, selwood, chapman, ling, scarlet, ablett) and BJ is leaving for EXTRA money he isn't worth, well good luck to him. To be honest for 600k we will get good value out of two players at 400k and 200k than we do out of Goddard. If he stays great to keep a very good player if he goes, well it might not be that bad in the long run. To be honest would have been more disappointed if Montagna had left but at least he knows what his 'value' is.
Great post Andrew!

I think it's imperative that we work towards the Hillbilly's salary scale. According to Brian Cooke, one upside of this scheme is that most players at their club therefore end up being on wages above the player average. Another win/win.

Looking at that (purported) list of Geelong players on $500K or less, add Pendlebury, Thomas & Swan, even 'The Ego' at the Dawks isn't (again purportedly) on anywhere near as much as what I would've expected... how can St Kilda compete with these clubs if we match silly over the top offers for BJ, or any of our players???

Imagine what a Geelong-esque pay scale could have allowed us to add to our infamous Achilles Heel 'bottom 6' players in those Grand Finals...?

If he goes, it's win/win for BJ and St Kilda. If BJ stays for reasonable money, that's also win/win IMHO.

I get the impression that the Saints powers-that-be also think this way under the Pelican (I laffed when Bakes call him that  ). Can anyone on here with club connections confirm/deny that? Ta.

yeah old news dude :)
I heard that he has just bought a yurt in the Gobi Desert - Mongolia.

Maybe he is planning to invest his millions in the Rio copper mine and wants a house close-by to check in on it?
Serious? :D Why would he be doing all of that? :)

Why were so many Carlton people booing BJ on Sunday? Could it be because he rejected an offer from them? !!

Either of these two would suggest he has decent taste in music.
