Why does it matter where he goes???defacto wrote:1 pick mate. no chance of 2 unless he goes to GWS
They use an AFL formula to decide compensatory picks so unless there is a special GWS insertion clause into the formula I cant see how where he goes matters as to what picks we get.
Taking into account he was a number 1 draft pick and probably in our top 3 or 4 paid players I would think there is an outside chance we might get 2 - that said his age might be a defining factor which might bring his value down a bit.
Either way its out of our control

Free agency rules are different to GWS uncontracted player access rules.Devilhead wrote:Why does it matter where he goes???defacto wrote:1 pick mate. no chance of 2 unless he goes to GWS

Re: Could today be the last time Goddard plays for Saints?
I genuinely believe he would have liked to have stayed. But if he gets offered 4 x 700 = 2.8 mill compared with say 3 x 5= 1.5 m from us. He will go.
I will have no hard feelings. He gave a lot to us and tried his best. Not his fault if we cant pay him enough.
He will go. We get a first round pick. And Siposs takes over BJs role in the backline.
For what its worth - I reckon hes off to Freo. He knows/likes Ross .

He looked happy in the rooms after the game. Not so sure he's leaving

Re: Could today be the last time Goddard plays for Saints?
Listened to the guys on 774 talking about this topic and one bloke said that the Saints were now going to be moving away from players being in a position to dictate terms, and that Goddard will be offered what the club feel to be fair, and if this is not accepted then we part company. Could be part of a new strategy of building a stricter pay regime at St Kilda. I'd like to think BJ is going to stay with us, but really want this done and dusted one way or the other and lets get on with preparing for 2013.
St Kilda forever ( God help me)
Re: Could today be the last time Goddard plays for Saints?
Read something recently that explained how FA compenstation works. There are 5 categories or 'bands.'
Band 1 - First round pick
Band 2 - End of first round pick
Band 3 - Second round pick
Band 4 - End of second round pick
Band 5 - Third round pick
I'd hope we got at least the top compensation which I'm assuming would fall after our first pick, being pick 13. Also good to see at the very least you get a third round pick for losing a FA.
GWS taking players would be subject to the uncontracted player rule, not FA rule so we would get better compensation than if Goddard went as a FA to another club. Plugger has said that GWS are targeting Jackson Ferguson, it would be interesting to see what compensation we got for a rookie, probably bugger all.

Re: Could today be the last time Goddard plays for Saints?
AFL has already come out and said likes of Buddy, Cloke, Swan, Goddard are all only worth One 1st Round pick through Free Agency. Also very important to keep in mind that if we secure another player via free agency our compensation for Goddard drops and you get the difference between how both players are rated. For example if we secured Chaplin from Port we'd probably only get end 2nd round or 3rd round pick for Goddard leaving.

Re: Could today be the last time Goddard plays for Saints?
I think I've got to the point where id be more surprised if he stayed, and expect him to leave. That said, i'd be really happy to be proved wrong.
If he does depart, I really hope we take our first round pick and our 600k+ salary cap space and make it count. Don't let ourselves be victims of free agency, let's become this year's free agency winners and be better in 2013

I doubt a rookie would ever come under free agancy.Old Mate wrote:Read something recently that explained how FA compenstation works. There are 5 categories or 'bands.'

GWS would take Ferguson as an uncontraced player from us hence why we'd get compo.plugger66 wrote:I doubt a rookie would ever come under free agancy.Old Mate wrote:Read something recently that explained how FA compenstation works. There are 5 categories or 'bands.'

It's win-win for BJ. He leaves an makes a lot more money or stays for less and he's a hero. Has he accepted lower than market value contracts in the past??magnifisaint wrote:He looked happy in the rooms after the game. Not so sure he's leaving

They are so far linked toCairnsman wrote:I am led to believe there is a Melbourne club very interested in BJ...Richmond.
Stealing Mark Williams
Knights from Adelaide and now Goddard
Ramping it up are the Tiges and they have elite midfield talent to back it up
Would we take a Goddard for their first Round pick at 9 I think.... I don't think that's to far off the mark... maybe a player as well ..(although wont be a gun..)

no, the issue is 4 or 5 X $1mCon Gorozidis wrote:I genuinely believe he would have liked to have stayed. But if he gets offered 4 x 700 = 2.8 mill compared with say 3 x 5= 1.5 m from us. He will go.

Not sure why we keep suggesting that the club receiving Goddard will give up a cracker…Teflon wrote: Would we take a Goddard for their first Round pick at 9 I think.... I don't think that's to far off the mark... maybe a player as well ..(although wont be a gun..)
It will either be via free agency or the GWS start-up policy, we're not talking 'trading' here.

Could it be that he is keen on a flag and Richmond are a chance within the next few years and have room in their salary cap. Keeps him in Melbourne too.plugger66 wrote:Teflon wrote:They are so far linked toCairnsman wrote:I am led to believe there is a Melbourne club very interested in BJ...Richmond.
