Maybe he will do it tomorrow or after the game, he may have told the group already and does not want a big deal. Who knows I am only guessing. Blakey is not one for a big fanfare IMHO.

If anyone is playing their last game on Sunday it probably wouldn't be announced until the squad is trimmed down today anyway.

Blakey should now if he is done by now , he surely would have been told by watters or he knows personally he can't go one more . Given that nothing has been said he might play on .. Surely he would have announced his retirement by now and surely the club wouldn't delist him without some sort of prior warning . Agreed...Just look at what Carlton did today in getting rid of Ratten.....unceremoniously dumping one of your favourite sons like that can really bring a club down. Blakey is the ultimate team man and he'll know when he starts to become a liability....hopefully we let him go on his own terms.

His only saving grace is his efforts in the ruck - but you wouldn't pick him on that alone

He has enormous courage, has gotten the best from himself in every way and been supported by the club all the way through but our focus is now the future and I don't think continuing to give Blake games helps that

Out of that bunch only Gram would have much value. Kosi and Jones would have no currency IMO.

Both Kosi and Gram have clauses in their contracts that they can trigger to get another year on their deal as stated earlier (and in previous threads). Both will be here next year.

Agree with this. But I reckon Blake's future is going to depend on whart we can get in by way of a ruckman and a tall defender. If we can get a half decent mature ruckman that will give us McEvoy, Stanley, + new recruit, with Kosi as back up. Kosi has been mentioned as having a contract clause for next year, so given he is there, and that Watters already mentioned targeting a ruckman and a tall defender as a priority, Blake's presence will depend on wether we can get the tall defender. The advantage Blake has is that he can play tall defender (not well, but he can do it) and ruck. If we get a tall defender I think Blake's gone, but I think the fact that he represents bargain basement back-up for a couple of positions means his future will be decided by what we can recruit.

I wouldn't trade Schneider. I thought he was very good when he was out there and the coach loves him.

and would be great assisting at Sandy and being a mature in for what will prove to be young sides down there- spent time in the coaches box whilst out injured-- and still being available to pinch hit when needed..

If Blake goes round again it means we havent been able to recruit a genuine key defender.

You would not play him solely as ruckma and he doesnt play small - to slow, turning circle of queen mary.

I would be reluctant to even keep him in reserve - cause if he gets stepped in the event of injury then he's taking the spot from a developing kid.

If this side was top 4 bound next year - sure,keep him as depth. I dont think we'll be top 4 for a few years to come..........

Kosi might go as a 2nd or 3rd ruck to a team struggling for talls (Dogs?) even then 2nd or 3rd round draft pick or an equivalent fringe player trade.

schneider would be attractive to a team struggling for goal scoring power and a strong midfield looking for leadership.

Blake will stay. back up defender, runs into some fitness has value in the team as a sub/defender.

I dont understand how we are going to ever have a clean out, or recruit players, if no-one is to leave! Of all those listed above to go, I reckon Raph is a class above most of them. But I accept that we must move on. If we are to promote three rookies, add 5 players from the draft, we must have 8 spaces to fill. Simple. Just a matter of which 8 to discard.

I think Jones and Ray are contracted to the end of 2013, Gram and Kosi reportedly have clauses to they can action in their contract.

This seems right.

Blake may go too, depends on how many picks we want in deep draft.

Crocker is under the pump a bit, similar to Blake depends on how many picks we want. Hasn't done much. Could be a downgrade to rookie like Brad Howard/Leigh Fisher/McQualter.

Winmar still has a year on contract so will be right.

BJ probably gone, but we will get 2 comp. picks for him.

Rookies:

Archer- gone, done little in yr 3.
Andreoli- 90% gone, hasn't done enough to warrant third year.
Staley- Might be given another year due to lack of height on list but could just as easily be gone due to promise of other rookies compared to him.
Shenton- seemed most likely in NAB Cup but seems to have trailed right off.
Curren and Ferg will be given at least another rookie year
Dunell seems a likely promotion, or at least rookie again.
Minchington looks to have done enough for a second year.

i reckon we'll upgrade 2 rookies (curren, dunnell). leave ferguson on for one more year due to list contraints. bring in 2 ready made players (ruck, KPD). and then bring in another group of kids.

without trades we would need to delist 4 + kids which i think we'll bring in 3. so need 7 spots.
