Errr, yes they would have to give something up!! It's not about the trade, it's about the ability to fit people into the salary cap.
With Murphy, Gibbs, Kruezer, Judd already on the list, and realistically being well rewarded, where is the cap room to pay Cloke $800k per year?
That's what everyone loses sight of whenever free agency comes up. People can offer what they like, but you still have to fit all your players into your salary cap. So if you throw $2m a year at some gun player to steal him away from another club, great, but he will be playing with a team of rookies because that's all you can afford with the rest of your salary cap.
