+1 here. way i read it is. we came into the year, had initial discussion with BJ around money/terms etc. BJ wanted more than what we wanted to offer, so we waited, signed up other around him. his form waned so we came back to him with another offer. BJ wasnt happy with it and has decided to test the waters of free agency.Con Gorozidis wrote:I dont think we are stuffing around" - I think we are offering all we can can under the rules. We are maxed out paying big coin for Roo and still paying Kosi. We simply cant do any more then we are doing.SainterK wrote: (BTW, I've been pretty strong on the fact he will stay, I just think the Saints are stuffing around here which is making me nervous)
IMO club is in the right here. BJ is just trying to get the best possible contract given it could be his last and most important one. i think BJ's manager also knows clokes decision has been made which means BJ is now the center of attention for some clubs, who are big players in the free agency market.

Spot on. SainterK I am afraid the only way the club could have made BJ an offer where he would have been all signed by now is by having consumed so much of our salary cap that someone like Dal would have gotten squeezed out. Would that have made you content? Would you have been then happy that the Saints had not stuffed around?
BJ has been sniffing the air....and there is a salary cap.
He will either do a Lenny and play for less that he is worth as he wants to play with his mates, and be a one club players.
Or he will do a Gablett, and take the cash and run.
We are waiting for BJ, and not the Club.
Flying the World in comfort thanks to FF Points....
Re: Goddard and saints going to Free agency to decide his va
I personally don't believe there has been an offer on the table for that long.
To say we are waiting on BJ isn't entirely fair IMO.
I believe him when he said only a few weeks ago that no offer had been put to him yet, the club only got vocal about an offer about a week ago, why is that?

because the offer has been put to his manager, and BJ can play funny buggers saying I havent spoken to any clubsSainterK wrote:I personally don't believe there has been an offer on the table for that long.

the very simple truth to this point is that IF goddard wanted to stay a saint he would have signed long ago, and the longer he doesnt put pen to paper he stretches the saints in terms of money and what we do with other players
saying you would like to be a one club player and being a one club player are two very different things, and so far we have only ever heard platitudes from goddard. Time to sign, now, or bugger off.

Well they are the only 2 options open to him. What if we havent really offerred him anything of note because we dont have the money? There is also 2 sides to the story. I still say we really dont want to keep him because we dont have a lot of money and the club are still hoping GWS want him. That now looks very unlikely so the best we can do is probably one first rounder for him that i beleive must be used this year.

I will be happy to change my view if shown otherwise.
Club seems suddenly very vocal about a contract though, a little like they are scrambling for mine.
I still maintain it's hard to sign a contract prior to this fortnight if there wasn't one.
I read elsewhere lots of things said, but not done, and not from his end.

With Lenny and Joey signed for next year, I would be suprised to see bj there.sunsaint wrote:Lenny, Milne, Montagna, Gilbert - signed

Maybe he will be there but not Dal.
An established mid is gunna go IMO.
Lance or James??

Well I’m probably fortunate in that I have no idea of what each of our players is on or how we sit in terms of the Salary Cap. So therefore I can still hope that the guys who know this stuff will be able to somehow fit them all in.

Re: Goddard and saints going to Free agency to decide his va
If he is going to test his value in free agency does that not mean we won't know what happens until the end of the period in which free agents can be signed? I think it finishes mid October, so there might be quite a bit of worrying and speculation to go.

but what gets my goat here, is the love that is still on goddard's side
this is a much worse situation than luke ball, and he was pilloried to hell and black(& white)
I cant imagine the contract will be less(or much less)than what he is on now, and a fair bet it is actually an increase

Funny, because it's the lack of love for him on here that gets mine.

I am a huge Goddard fan.
I have been told directly from a reliable source ( no name dropping, but is someone that features prominently on a football discussion show that airs on Monday) that he has been offered $500k by the club, and a rival club has offered $750k.
He is really torn at the moment from what I've been told.
I hope he stays, but $250k pa. what would you do?
