Royal Perth G.C. took membership inquiry for Goddard - claim
May be someone playing funny buggers or may be significant?
http://www.afl.com.au/news/newsarticle/ ... fault.aspx
A "MEXICAN stand-off" has developed between St Kilda and out-of-contract star Brendon Goddard, a source close to the Saints' administration has revealed.
Goddard, 27, is a restricted free agent at season's end and has so far given no guarantees he'll re-commit to the Seaford based club.
While Saints coach Scott Watters told reporters on Friday he was comfortable with the progression of talks with Goddard, AFL.com.au believes the likelihood of the star staying at St Kilda is becoming more remote, and golf has emerged as a surprising factor in the star utility's football future.
During the week, the Royal Perth Golf Club took a membership inquiry for the name Brendon Goddard.
and so on

Re: Royal Perth Golf Club took membership inquiry for Goddar
He loves his golf. Membership at a top club like that would be a big carrot.
He's a good enough player that he could just about turn pro after his football career. Perhaps we should get him some lessons

if we were desperate to keep him maybe we'd hook him up with ogilvy

restricted free-agent so we can do deals i think.Rosco wrote:free agent. there is no deal.
if we got zac clarke + top 15 draft pick (compo from afl) id be unhappy but not furious.
bj is a gun player but reality is saints are 5 years away from challenging again.

Re: Royal Perth G.C. took membership inquiry for Goddard - c
The only way Goddard goes and we get anything in return is a trade, or a compensation pick from the AFL (for loosing him), not a combination of the two.
Being restricted just means the club has an opportunity to match any offer, and if we do that, then Goddard stays.
Goddard's options are:
staying with the saints
being traded to another club
accepting a free agency offer from an opposing club and the saints NOT matching it
or entering the draft.

If we match the offer, he can still ask for a trade or enter either draft.Unforgiven wrote:Being restricted just means the club has an opportunity to match any offer, and if we do that, then Goddard stays.

Doubt he would leave for a golf membership not matter how prestigious the golf club is.bigcarl wrote:He loves his golf. Membership at a top club like that would be a big carrot.

No sour grapes Ross Lyon - bullshyte you have done everything in your power to f... us over since leaving. Perhaps the Lyon lovers will now take off their rose coloured glasses and see him for what he is. A complete mercinary with no footballing morals whatsoever !

Like bj would leave to go to royal Perth, he is currently at Yarra Yarra and Sam is at Kingston Heath, the Heath is far better but still they can then play either course whenever they want. Royal Perth isn't in the same league as Kingston Heath, metro, Victoria and royal Melbourne. The golf club isn't going to sway his decision, and especially that one. If it were golf he would stay where he is and what he has access too. I know because I play at Vic off the same handicap as bj. Melbourne sandbelt amongst best courses in the world.SaintPav wrote:Doubt he would leave for a golf membership not matter how prestigious the golf club is.bigcarl wrote:He loves his golf. I wish my joining fee and annual subs were as low as royal Perth

Uhh, Lyon is obviously a professional senior AFL coach, trying to do his best for the club that put faith in him to lead the club forward. Wouldnt you want the same from Scott Watters?WinnersOnly wrote:No sour grapes Ross Lyon - bullshyte you have done everything in your power to f... us over since leaving. Re: Royal Perth Golf Club took membership inquiry for Goddar
Like I said, it could just be someone causing trouble.
On the other hand, signing him up to a good golf club would be the first thing you'd do if you were Freo and wanted him across.
Plenty of good weather for golf over in Perth and dry tracks all year round, unlike even some of our sandbelt courses. The bloke just loves the game.

Not a bad idea. We SAY we match the offer, and force a trade.vacuous space wrote:If we match the offer, he can still ask for a trade or enter either draft.Unforgiven wrote:Being restricted just means the club has an opportunity to match any offer, and if we do that, then Goddard stays.
He won't just enter a draft as he has no control where he goes.
( unless it's the filth of course )
The risky part is if he says ok
Re: Royal Perth G.C. took membership inquiry for Goddard - c
Heard yesterday from reasonably credible source that the Saints want BJ to go because of the money we have to pay him. The problem is they want him to go to GWS but tat doesnt look likely. Freo are huge favourites and because of that we may actually now try to keep him. That will mean though we cant participate in free agency because of salary cap constraints. If they keep BJ and they havent signed Joey then he may be the one who has to go.

BJ knows his golf, if he does go west it will be Lake Karringyap GC he'll call not Royal Perth. The starter of thr rumour needed a name that would spark a story.

Straight after the game BJ had the biggest grin ever. I was down on the boundary line and he passed a signed little footy to a friend's daughter on the fence. Was pouring in sweat so he worked hardish I guess.
Still think he's a goner. Just gut feel.

Hmmm how many times have we heard that excuse - and lost Lockett's, Balls etc .....
I have never ever heard that type of stuff from the Carltons and Essendonds .. not to mention the filth. These teams continually manage to negotiate around salary cap and other issues - I assume by having an influence over outside and family employment.
It is like saying - oh - we cannot afford a flag right now - sorry folks.
We gave Ball to Collingwood and - he tagged Lennie in the GF replay. Great!
Canyou imagine Goddard ripping us apart with his kicking, goals, clearances etc.. Just so pathetically sad.

This is a team game and there is no room for individuals who think they are above walking through the fire.

Dangerfield, from the Crows, right after signing a new contract, tweeted about his nice new Camry sitting in his driveway. Who is the Crows big sponsor?
Seems easy enough, any rich Saint fan could arrange for free renovations for BJ's family's home in Gippsland maybe? In every single industry, stuff is done under the table.

I would have thought if he tweeted it, it wasnt done under the table.
