They are in better form than Essendon. I think it was very important but only one game counts now and that is next Friday.

Don't reckon Carlton will be a walkover either especially with captain KFC back and rested!

That is that Richmond come home with a wet sail.
Because if they do, we can still afford to drop the Cats game.
They play the Dogs today, Freo in Freo, the Bombers then Port.
If they win all those they'll sheppard us through to 8th, and finish 9th themselves.
As Plugger said, beat the Cats and we should be right.
The other thing is if we beat the Cats we could finish as high as 6th or 7th which would probably result in a home final. finish 8th and we'll probably play the Eagles in the west.
The tigers are always gunning for ninth, it's their spot others only keep it warm for them.

Unless we win this week, Fremantle will make the 8. The final 8 is most likely to be:
Adelaide
Hawthorn
Collingwood
Sydney
West Coast
Geelong
North
Fremantle
with an Adelaide v Hawthorn Grand Final

The Cats game for us this week is hurdle number 1. Hurdle number 2 is the game against the Blues. A possible scenario, although unlikely is that we win this week and lose to the Blues. Although without Roo it's more than likely we could lose both.

Although it isn't a definite, if we win our last 3 games we will very likely make it.

What if Freo win all three? Can Norf still miss if we win all three?
If we did end up making it, we would almost be certain to play West Coast over there.

If we can beat the Cats this week, we will be a realistic chance of passing them on the ladder as they have the Swans in the last round. Wouldn't that be sweet!

Very very sweet. It's just that they play Swans at Simonds which makes it tricky.dragit wrote:If we can beat the Cats this week, we will be a realistic chance of passing them on the ladder as they have the Swans in the last round. Wouldn't that be sweet!

True, but at this rate, the Swans will be playing for a top 2 spot and a home final… they have the Hawks the week before too, very interesting end to the season.GRAMophone wrote:Very very sweet. Re: RESULTS THAT MUST HAPPEN FOR US TO MAKE FINALS
Freo is the team the most likely though. They have a better run than the bombers and will most likely win 2 of 3 (best case for us) which leaves us needing to win 3 of 3 to make it. I can't see it happening unfortunately.plugger66 wrote:Beekay wrote:Freo drop 2 - we need to win 2 out of 3

Freo play Richmond in W.A, North in VIC, Melbourne in W.A.
I'd say we are a 30% chance now. 80% chance if we beat the Cats.
Freo arent in the 8.

Yep, cant influence the other game results so just do Geelong this week.plugger66 wrote:At the moment only one game matters and that is Friday night. Win that and I think we will be ok. Lose it and its over.
Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

Re: RESULTS THAT MUST HAPPEN FOR US TO MAKE FINALS
Did anyone actually watch us vs the woeful Dees? We were aweful, I very much doubt we can win 4 on the trot this year then more if we make finals. If we do I will be happy but based on the Melbourne game we are a long way off still in the consistency stakes

Re: RESULTS THAT MUST HAPPEN FOR US TO MAKE FINALS
Not enough quality to seriously challenge in the finals if we do sneak into the eight, so lets worry about next season. Losing a couple of games we should have won didn't help. I'll give Watters this season to get his style into the club, and also for him to get the experience under his belt, so next year realistically needs to see us improve by a minimum three or four wins over this season

Re: RESULTS THAT MUST HAPPEN FOR US TO MAKE FINALS
I think we need to be realistic about the next few years, our stars are in decline not on the improve, very unlikely that we will go from 13 wins this year to 17 next year, IMO.spert wrote:Not enough quality to seriously challenge in the finals if we do sneak into the eight, so lets worry about next season. We are due for a rebuild, and should brace ourselves for a few bottom 4-5 finishes, quality players don't just spring from nowhere.
Re: RESULTS THAT MUST HAPPEN FOR US TO MAKE FINALS
Yes we will more than likely drop a bit but the notion that you bottom out to get picks and rebuild is being challenged. Sydney and Geelong are the best examples of teams that have stayed up by clever management - trades, youth development, etc. If you bottom out in today's market you'll likely lose sponsorship, supporters, credibility, attraction to young players and a whole host of other stuff. If you bottom out you are stuffed and it's a looooong way back.
There is much more emphasis on developing squads through youth skill programs, talent identification, mature age recruiting. Collingwood with their mega bucks are the best at this and Scott has witnessed it first hand. I'm not surprised he wants to introduce an academy that uses by some of the best teachers he can find - McPhee, Graham, etc.
I hope we remain competetve for a long time and build a reputation that makes the players stand tall - otherwise you risk being where Melbourne are.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.
