Troy Chaplin

Post: # 1244401Post kosifantutti »

I don't know much about him but it seems we are one of several teams interested in him.
St Kilda, too, has registered an interest with Chaplin's management, the Saints also having a significant weakness at full-back, having lost journeyman Zac Dawson to Fremantle without finding a mature replacement. St Kilda's tight salary cap and substantial contracts have not given it much space to pursue players from rival clubs, though that situation is likely to change in the next couple of years as club greats retire.

Personally I'd love to see the Saints get Troy Chaplin. If Goddard were to leave then there would be room in the cap for Chaplin, and some compensation picks as well!

Would be handy down back, if we end up delisting 3 or 4 players plus a retirement he will easily fit into our cap.

Gee living in Adelaide I have been to a few Power games with mates and he always looks so slow covering the ground. Cant say I have ever thought he would be a handy get.
Would not be that excited if we got him that's for sure.

He would be OK. He plays his share of good and bad games. Nothing too exciting there.

Well considering he’s being talked about in terms of a free agent, and courting clubs for better offers than Port’s prepared to make, he’d wanna be better than OK.

After all, it’s not like we have a lot of space in our salary cap.

If we’re going to make a play for an established player we’d want to make it a good one.

He's restricted, so unless we offer stupid money, Port will just match. I'm not sure we have stupid money to offer and, even if we did, I don't think Chaplin's worthy of megadollars. He's a good defender, but by no means elite and not enough of an upgrade on what we've already got to justify the dollars. I suspect we'll add at least one mature ruck and a big bodied defender, but they'll probably be more bargain bin material than headline stars.

Yeah nah pleasing positive

Not really a key defender. Does his best work floating into the contest as the 3rd man. Ok player, but I'd prefer we go after a true full back, if we do go after someone.

Although always seems to do well against nullifying st.kilda forwards.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Good Player

Size would be an assert to STK

Reid, A.Carlisle, Pears, M.Brown

Should be all targets

I think all 5 would be to many.
