Can someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Is this bloke the best long kick in the country?

He kicks the ball monster distances, and, something else I've noticed, they fly fast. Much faster than other kicks of those 60-70 meter lengths (meaning, of course, he's kicking it flatter).

Can he be better utilized for this skill, ala a Stewart Dew type.

Or have I seen something that isn't actually reality?

I think he's got excellent technique but poor decision making. He's been getting a lot more of the footy recently, often as the spare man back but too often he makes poor choices and turns the footy over. He's capable of long, accurate passes but doesn't have the nous to be a great rebounder.

How do people think he'd go in Goddards role and put Goddard at full forward. Looked like Scott Watters was playing around with that idea against the swans.

Goddard is NOT a key forward, in fact the times he has played there he has been almost ineffectual. He normally kicks goals when he drifts into the forward line and marks over the top or from the side when the talls are grappling in front of him. He is no good when he is positioned there with a defender stuck to him. In fact he is no good when anyone pays close attention to him, he is very easily shut out of a game

I honestly believe that he has really become a loose man in defence or nothing player.

he can clunk em, he is tall, he can kick a mile... perhaps a good CHF?

or even a FF, and leave goddard in the role he does best

He has been tried forward, not sure it worked.

I like his kicking in the back half, can break a zone.

It's interesting, peoples perception of players kicking efficiency. I thought I would look at the last record I have (Essendon game) and see what the player performance chart has to say. Of the defenders.........................

I also seem to recall an article in the Sunday HS titled Foot Soldiers? a couple of weeks back. Champion Data had been tracking players on the % of kicks that hit targets based on the degree of difficulty of the kick. It took into account things such as distance, pressure etc. I was surprised to see that Dempster was ranked inside the top 30 in the AFL and #1 at the club. The best was Hurn from the Eagles.
