Re: Round 17 Team
Ray and Hayes won us the game.
One of the more bizarre decisions, this one.
Can only assume that it's tactical and something to do with roles, matchups, size of ground. Who knows?

Re: Round 17 Team
For all those questioning the reasoning for the selection committee leaving out Faz, have another look at the game from last week... Rays work rate is ok, second efforts, overhead marking, tackling and spread are also ok....but his disposal by both hand and foot is atrocious at times.
That's why he's struggling to retain his spot. He might be handy in the clinches and stoppages against Sydney, but we already have CJ, Armo, Lenny and Jacks back!! If it was a final, who would you play out of Dunell and Ray? Could play similar roles, but personally I'd play Dunell for the fact that the opposition can't plan as well against players they're not used to.

Na I don't think so as he goes hard at it all the time ...
Would much rather Ray coming of half back with the ball in his hands than Gram ...
Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!
Re: Round 17 Team
maybe it's to do with ray being a midfielder and two midfielders coming back in. there's a limit to the number of similar players you can have in one sie.Superboot wrote:Can only assume that it's tactical and something to do with roles, matchups, size of ground. Who knows?

Re: Round 17 Team
Looks like Ray got squeezed out of the 21.
Question then was who to play as the Sub? I assume that a part of the reason why they gave it to Dunnell is that his development will greatly benefit from the experience, an experience which includes having to fly interstate for a game. A selection for our future.
From the VFL games I have seen him play he has shone out as a player with a future. Has that something special about him.
In terms of a "now" selection Ray IMO is stiff. The Sandi watches goss at the start of the season was that for some reason that he was on the outer with the coaches. No implying it is personal, as there must be some aspect of his game that they do not like. He has played some very good football when played in the seniors this year.
Longterm I have no doubt that Pelchen has a vision for reshaping the Saints...just as he did at the Hawks. Squeezing in players with better skills and/or pace would seem to be clear parts of it.

Re: Round 17 Team
If that's the case they may as well give me a game. They won't find any Intel on me, and I can kick both sides.Scollop wrote:For all those questioning the reasoning for the selection committee leaving out Faz, have another look at the game from last week... Re: Round 17 Team
As Dunnell is new, Sydney won't know how he plays and how to handle him. We don't really know either at AFL level.
Maybe Watters wants a bit of that unknown factor. It's a gamble.

Re: Round 17 Team
In a pressure game all of the inexperienced players were amongst our worst.
Ray would most likely have been better value and was in good form. Success now vs later
