so your ok with our players getting on the piss in a big way straight after a game?
0.08 hardly getting on it in a big way he got caught and made an error of judgement. Albiet the morning after BUT who are we to know what pressures are on a players body after a game, exhaustion, dehydration, etc etc. I know after a big day of cricket Id be smashed after a couple of quiet ones.

several reporters with history on the subjct would probably be best to Not write the stories

but consider this- and NOT excusing him- But learning and understanding can take some longer-
give he is Under 25, the game finished around 10.30- recovery and after game meetings etc can mean up to another hour- drinks would not be till around 12 with late / post game meal- so time between drinking what could have been only 2 glasses would be just 8 hours or so.

http://www.health.nsw.gov.au/factsheets ... cohol.html
If your legal limit is .05 a good guide is:
•2 standard drinks in the first hour and then 1 per hour after that.

If your legal limit is .02 a good guide is:
•avoid drinking at all before driving, as just 1 standard drink could be enough to put you over the limit.

If you drink more than this and drive, then you are breaking the law and could lose your licence, get a fine or go to prison. Any drink-driver who injures or kills someone can be sent to prison.

Sobering up
Sobering up, or getting the alcohol out of your body, takes time. A little bit of the alcohol (about 10%) leaves the body in breath, sweat and urine, but most is broken down by the liver.

The liver can only get rid of about one standard drink per hour. Nothing can speed this up - not even black coffee, cold showers, exercise or vomiting.

You can still be over the legal limit even a few hours after your last drink, even if you feel okay.

It is easy to do.
Especially if you are dehydrated.
But dont get behind the wheel ffs. 0.08...you should KNOW.

Couple of my close mates got cut in half by a dunk driver. There are no excuses.

ST KILDA midfielder has been suspended for one match and fined $5000 after failing a random breath test following a boozy night after the win against Essendon.
http://www.couriermail.com.au/sport/afl ... 6420572779

Boozy would be an assumption- atleast he was going to training....

When I saw the topic title I thought the MRP had conjured up some ridiculous and inventive new charge. Running too far with intent to not breathe, etc. 1 week.

No its not if you were done after drinking that night. He got caught in morning on his WAY to training. That means he was seriously loaded last night to still be that high this morning for their 10am session!

Get a grip, you're hardly going to be hung over with a reading of .08. Not condoning what he's done, but he's probably had a few sherberts, a good nights sleep and thought he was okay to drive. Most drivers are being pinged for being over .05 the morning after these days. Takes the liver about a hour to get rid of each .01, so he was probably about .14 before he went to bed.

I don't know how he'd have the energy to go out post game but I'm not him.

He wouldn't have left ground til midnight. A few hours somewhere full of good cheer after a big win.

I dunno. Seems to me it wouldn't take much. What, five beers and a few shots that seemed a good idea at the time?

I'd like to to think they'd go home, but they're human just like all the other dunces who get sprung DUI morning after....

Do you suggest a curfew for our little Saintly lab rats?

and they were celebrating a great win- and it could be anything up to 2 or 3 in the morning- recent discussion - like in the last week - many former players discussing how long it takes to wind down after a game
It was 2.30am before I got to bed- wired and excited and I didn't get home till 1 ----- and I don't/can't drink- so not that I condone it but can see how he would not have done the sums..... and as the lists in my previous post suggest and others have stated-it could be as little as 6-8 hours from time he drank-
and tehre is no indicationthat the drinking was done whilst out- he could have been home..

As many might know, I'm not the biggest fan of Jack the player. But, for such off field events, it's important not to get too sanctimonious, especially if it is laced with hypocrisy. When alcohol is involved, luck plays a big role in what happens - it can range from being nothing to something tragic. I reckon up to 99% of people who are over the limit at any given time don't get caught. The line between foolishness and criminality on the road can be very thin. Six months off the road will be a stiff penalty for a 22 year old (from Lorne). Hopefully, he won't compound it by driving after his disqualification comes into effect. But no-one was injured and no lives changed. No big deal as far as I am concerned.

In the end of the day he did the wrong thing. However at 22 he's still a kid. If your 22 year old apprentice sparkie got caught on the weekend you would not be happy but you would understand because majority of us have been their at that age. Maybe it is a good thing for him to be caught only a tiny bit over so it makes the rest of our younger players see what he's going through for the next six months not being able to drive. He has come along way on the field as a player this year and he will learn from this misjudgement. I respect the club by suspending him for a week and hopefully another youngster gets a chance in the midfield. Maybe time for curren or ledger to get a run.

What's I find stupid about allot of these recovery sessions , is sports medico's say one of the best sources of recovery is sleep !
Games at night mean that players , in this case steven would have been home at probably midnight at the earliest . Hyped up after a game it would be 1.00 before he'd get to sleep . Then up at 8.00 to get to recovery . 7 hours would be good 1
however most of us have been that age and know there's no way in the world this happens .
Players all drink lots of coffee and sports drinks which give you a buzz . Milney's 250th and a good win means beer's and celebrating , so jack would probably have been going sleepy bobo's around 3 .
Having 2 beers around midnight will still register at 8.00 in the morning and he probably had 6
A harsh lesson learnt but hopefully this will make him an even better player !

Not condoning what Jack has done, but I'd take a bet that many on hear have driven over the limit the morning after and not even realised, because they went pulled over and tested. It happens to a lot of people and it's a mistake that many people make and some find it hard to register that they won't be fine to drive the next morning.

A week suspension is enough and hopefully he learnt a valuable lesson.

Less than a week after Dustin Martin and Connors get done for missing training, one of ours screws up. This club just cannot catch a break.

Gee do we want our guys to be robots??

It is extremely easy not to realise that you are over the limit especially if you have had a decent sleep after the drinking. My old man got pinged for it and he didn't drive until the night after!

The kid will learn, he now has to deal with having to ask for lifts from mates and when he gets his licence back he will have a breathalyser on the car which he will need to use before the car will start.

And on the point of drinking hell for players they would be letting the hair down like most after work. They are human and are allowed to let the hair down. And it doesn't mean he was on a bender! Depending on drinking preference only a couple of drinks could get you easily over the limit not even bringing dehydration into the equation.
