Re: Woeful Brian Taylor commentary
I just loved hearing the love fest drooling over how good Ess are at this that and whatever - then they had nothing to talk about coz the script they had planned for Ess winning went out the window.Con Gorozidis wrote:glad there is a thread on this. i was amazed at this guy. total douche on so many levels. and his hatred of us is so obvious.just a joke.
Was just gold listening to them trying to like us with their asses squeezed tight.

Remember the poor darlings wanted to offload Saturday games to 10 or 9 but couldn't.
It shows!
I haven't watched the replay yet, how many times did he say "Wowee!"
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: Woeful Brian Taylor commentary
Dont people have a volume button. We have these threads nearly every week. Does anyone like any commentator?

Fair cop plugger66. I certainly don't find as many commentators biased against us as many on here do Tim Lane is unwuestionably biased agsinst us (surely even an old devil's advocate like you would admit this). But he's the only one I've ever noticed. There was a bit of a tall poppy syndrome going against us in 2009-11, combined with a perhaps understandable distaste for the style of footy we played under Lyon. But that was all.
I don't notice an enormous bias on the part of BT. But gee he's poor quality: no ability to communicate technical aspects of the game, lots of cases of mixing up the identities of players, a flat, droning style of delivery. In short, boring and uninformative.
But it's not unusual with sports commentators. It is much more of an art than people realise.

Huddo, McAvaney, Commetti, Matt Campbell and Eddy (when the Pies aren't involved) are all good commentators.plugger66 wrote:Dont people have a volume button. We have these threads nearly every week. Does anyone like any commentator?
BT and Dwayne Russell are biased and under prepared. Dwayne, in particular, tends to umpire the game...and that is frustrating.
The volume button is not really an option if you want to hear the umpires and injury updates and the like.

Any time I hear of Bristle, I have to provide a link that backs up my signature...
Look at that monkey go!

You can listen to Bristle tell you Carlton are still a massive chance at 28 points down with two minutes to go, you can listen to him tell you all about Lorne, or you can watch a monkey on a pushbike...I know which I prefer...

I cannot stand listening to BT. He is so hell bent on creating a persona, creating his own iconic phrases, and generally feeding his own ego he forgets what he is meant to be doing: describe what's happening.

Re: Woeful Brian Taylor commentary
I had a text last night from a Brisbane based Essendon supporter who expressed similar opinions about BT annoying the crap out of her. So we are not the only ones who think he is god awful in his calling of the footy.
And having sat up to watch the replay on Foxtel, I concur. He thinks he's bringing humour into the game and all he comes across as is a giant "barrel boy" himself.
Stop treating the supporters like they're idiots who need to be entertained.

Re: Woeful Brian Taylor commentary
I don't give credit to allegations of bias or anything like that ... but Taylor is just very poor at his job.
He doesn't analyse the play properly and he can't provide anything beyond cliches and meaningless concentration on personality. He fails to get excited at the right moment, and when he does get excited his voice is too weak to make the most of the occasion.
Rex Hunt of the early 2000's or Clinton Grybas or Eddie McGuire when Ch 9 had the football rights - go back and have a listen to their calling of the football, and the way they appropriately captured the play with excitement and passion, but always made sure that the football came first.
Taylor is just woeful. He isn't biased. He is just a poor commentator.

And could someone teach him to pronounce our team's name? It's not Sang Kilda! Agree that he is not biased. Just incompetent and unfunny.
I started with nothing and I've got most of it left!

Re: Woeful Brian Taylor commentary
Without question, the worst I have ever heard... Makes very little sense and barely calls any play correctly... Irrelevant tangents and playing games with his co-commentators are his main priorities...
The way he was banging on and on with a sarcastic tone when Roo gave away that 50 for not returning the ball back in time was childish... Just wanted to prove the other callers wrong and just made things up...
Generally, I dont mind most callers... But BT is a disgrace...

It seems I am the one without a problem. The less you whing about minor crap on here the more people like you think you whinge. If it isnt a commentator it is the draw, the 6 day break, the MRP and so on. maybe if I whinged about all those things I wouldnt be classed as a whinger.

Now that I agree with.
