Drafting for next season
I know its early days but i was watching the national u18 championships on fox and one player caught my eye Tim Membrey for Vic Country big powerful full foward.
did anyone else watch the championships and rate anyother players

Re: Drafting for next season
Membrey not what we need. A quality player no doubt but he's a 186cm medium forward. He has a big body but he isn't tall enough to play key position. From yesterday's players, Tanner Smith would probably be in our sights. Smith is a 194 key back. He is probably the best shut down key defender in the champs and I wouldn't be surprised if we picked him up with our first pick.

yeah, i started a thread on Tanner, meant to go pick 20-25 but we will probably use pick 13-16 on him.

Only if Essendon are taking a lot of crack. Clubs will use their first pick to try and get him but Seedon only have to use their first pick to match it. At the moment that is pick 19. Bargin if I have ever seen one.

You think the AFL will let us broker a deal with the Vixens for father-daughter deals? Maybe they could give us some mother-son pick ups in return??

Unfortunately it's another disadvantage that we have to cop.
The father son rule cost us the 2009 and 2010 flags.

Re: Drafting for next season
I hope our recruiters aim for what we need rather just recruiting a bunch of players with similar size shape and skills. The wish list is obviously rucks, FF, CHB, midfield

poor kicking cost us the 2009 one for starters
If they didn't have ablett, Scarlett and Hawkins , we still would have lost.

Re: Drafting for next season
Rumor on bigfooty that we are looking at Ports FB Troy Chaplin.....a bit odd (From what I've seen is a slightly taller version of Gwilt)
Some players that I think we might look at/ I'm liking
-Kristian Jaksch (KPD/F)
-Liam McBean (Ruck/KPP)
-Mason Shaw (KPF/Ruck)
-Tanner Smith (Best KPD ATM)
-Oliver Wines (Luke ball-esque)
-Jake Stringer (Plays a very similar game to Dustin Martin) *coming off a broken leg....but is a top 3 talent
Keep in mind that most of those players will probably go in the first round

Re: Drafting for next season
At this stage it looks like we may end up with our first pick between 10 and 12. In which case players like Stringer, Wines, and Shaw may be gone. Considering our needs, Tanner may be our best bet. He is expected to go from 12 to 20.

With all the concession picks etc that are being used this year it will more likely be 18-19.borderbarry wrote:At this stage it looks like we may end up with our first pick between 10 and 12.
