Rooey still injured
Reported on Channel 10 news, Roo still very proppy and 50/50 to play according to Scotty.
So the question begs: Why did he play against Adelaide when he was clearly injured during training the day prior?
Not good news....hopefully he's back the following week for the Bummers game

Thats Mr. Smartarse to you
Re: Rooey still injured
Going on recent history
Rooey will be named, even if he is not a hope in hell... Not sure the thinking behind that, but it's been the norm.
More than 1 if it's a calf strain. Usually 2-4 depending on grade.

Re: Rooey still injured
I agree Eastern, because of his age, play it safe.
Play Goddard CHF, Roo FF. Milne, Siposs and Saad to lend support.
They'll be OK.

Still want to play Roo or do you mean Kosi. Anyway I have still never seen anything to suggest BJ is a permanent forward. Cameo yes but please nothing else. Anyway we need him to kick it to our forwards.

Re: Rooey still injured
Maybe they can give Glen Brown another game at Full Forward....
How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?

John Bennett was better or even the mighty Gora

And then there's Malcolm Scott.bobmurray wrote:Ok...maybe we'll settle for Mark Scottplugger66 wrote:bobmurray wrote:Maybe they can give Glen Brown another game at Full Forward....

Could've been anything.
Unfortuntely he ended up being nothing.
Re: Rooey still injured
I reckon the selection games are pathetic and futile..... It gains nothing, makes a mockery of putting teams in and pays little respect to supporters.... Not sure the point.
Frustrating and annoying IMO.

Playing there for a week while the skipper gets his calf right is a cameo.

Thats a game and a waste of a very good player. 5 or 10 minutes per quarter will do if we have to.

Re: Rooey still injured
Plugger, how could it be a waste to play a very good player in probably the most important position on the ground?plugger66 wrote:

You may think he is not good enough to hold down a KEY position, but personally I think he is.
I could also argue that using an elite player ... one of the club's best two or three IMO ... as a half back flanker is a far worse "waste".
Anyway, if Rooey doesn't come up it's not great because it means Kosi will probably get a game. On recent form he should be dropped.
How close is Stanley?

Plugger, are you saying that Roo playing at CHF is a waste of a very good player? Because I think that's what you're saying.plugger66 wrote: Thats a game and a waste of a very good player. 5 or 10 minutes per quarter will do if we have to.
As ex-president Peter Summers said:
“If we are going to be a contender, we may as well plan to win the bloody thing.”
St Kilda - At least we have a Crest!

Re: Rooey still injured
Ok, so SW says it is not his knees...well, does he have a medical issue or not? Is it a chronic problem or is he just getting on and has he lost some of his agility and speed and overall effectiveness? If he did a calf and if he wasn't right before the Adelaide game and considering all the factors of travel, 6 day breaks, etc etc...why the hell did he need to bust a gut against the Gold Coast?
If Roo plays well and dominates versus GC Suns as he did, but only plays at 70% against Adelaide, is that the best thing for the team? I know he's going to give us value at 70% fitness versus a younger bloke or a replacement player, but isn't the whole idea to utilise the whole list to benefit the teams best chances in finals? If Rooy is going to be able to have an impact in crunch games and at the pointy end of the season, how can we just refuse to contemplate resting him??? Who ultimately decides if he plays each week or not? Who decides if one of the senior blokes or regulars or anyone who is suspect with niggles or injuries has a rest?
Imho, much of the responsibility of whether Roo rests should lie with the player. He is the captain and he must display selfless team oriented behaviour and lead by example. If he can't do that, then imho, the coach and the selection committee and the club need to seriously discuss this issue NOW. Next year won't be any easier for the senior players. The club needs to manage games played by all our senior guys.
