Re: Window officially closed??
I heard Paul Roos say tonight on 'On The Couch' that he likes Cox. I though that was pretty funny.
By the way Derwayne IS a knob and don't listen to him about our windows.

6-6 - we are virtually no hope of the flag this season.
Unless we dont lose a match from here (or maybe 1) we cant make the top four. You dont win a flag from outside the top four, and it is bloody hard to win even in the top four as we have found out.
Our top graders are just about done. Lenny will be 33, Riewoldt, Kosi,30, Joey and Dal 29, bj 27 next season. Fisher must be up near 30 as well
Maybe one more shot with the Watters gameplan bedded down and the lieks of Stanley, Newness, Saad, Milera, Cripps, etc into their second year, and the likes of Armo and Jack Steven really coming into their own. Maybe if we can snag a ruckman to help Mac we may have one last shot.
After that I think it is back to the drawing board. Will be interesting to see how Scotty sees it at trade time this year.
Lance or James??

Pretty sure everyone would have found those losses much more enjoyable to watch than much of the dross we served up over the last few years...until the siren sounded of course.plugger66 wrote:saintspremiers wrote:Who cares. We are playing attractive footy.
I look forward to watching us play this year as opposed to hoping we will be watchable.
Our losses to Richmond and Adelaide were more enjoyable to watch than many of our wins last season.
Tell me you are joking? Surely any win is better than an attractive loss. You play footy to win and not to win a beauty contest. Maybe on am on my own but I found nothing enjoyable in both those losses.

Pretty handy if you ask me.
Just need to recruit some quality kids this year.

Re: Window officially closed??
+1 about 2013, but I still think there's hope for this season, defensively we've been poor lately, but I don't expect that to continue; Fisher is back, Simpkin will surely be back, Watters will find the balance. He's not the messiah, but I can see good things there.joffaboy wrote:This. The Fireman wrote:We ain't what we used to be...if the window isn't closed then it's down enough to keep the mosquitoes out.

i remember when the Saints played the Pies not too long ago, maybe it was the Rd 3 game in the H&A season of 2010, they tore us apart but scored so many behinds instead of goals that we won and I remember thinking that when this Collingwood side gets it's kicking boots on, we are in trouble. I think that's where we're at. Our game plan stands up, if we execute with a bit more finesse and put enough pressure on each opposition kick in to make each behind worth 7 points, we will be unstoppable. If we don't manage to do that this year, we'll have to hope that none of our boys lose form next year.
Just My Opinion

I don't think it's a coincidence, hoping to see it improve now he is back and has a game under his belt (he played really well the last quarter)

Maybe we were just more defensive then because our form wasnt great so werent kicking as big as scores as we are now apart from GC which shouldnt count. It seems we cant the balance right.

Re: Window officially closed??
Fisher is capable of getting 25 touches fairly regularly and takes pressure off Gilbert and Goddard allowing them to play free. A fit Fisher is probably the player that makes the biggest difference to our playing list. It's bizarre but he still seems to get taken for granted despite being super consistent and competitive for years.

Need to scour West Coast for recruits.
Last 2 from there (Gehrig/Gardiner) nearly got us over the line.
Have they got any big blokes to spare?

Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!

Re: Window officially closed??
I would go to a guy who hasn't quite established but is on the way like Liam Jones or Jordan Roughead and see if you could get them early before they get into elite money.whiskers3614 wrote:Need to scour West Coast for recruits.

West Coast and Adelaide show the value of good talls over placing all your energy into elite mids like melbourne did. Levi Casboult is meant to be a gun player potentially, Carl Pederson that was at the Hawks is wanting another go at it and could be a bargain.

GC
Freo (dont score at home let alone in melb)
Rich
Swans (not big scorers themselves)
I think both Eagles and Crows have got hold of us offensively and I suspect Pies will be a handfull also.

Re: Window officially closed??
I still hold out hope that we can jag a premiership. The core is good enough however as we have now seen it was the core and nobody else that placed us in the position to challenge for premierships.
We really fudged it by playing role players who were mature aged but delivered 2/6ths of nothing compared to sticking to a few kids and easing them in considering the quality around them.
This does not include 2011 as most of our youngens went down injured soon after debuting too....or they were Dan Archer....never to be seen again.

Premiership window, premiership clock, whatever it's called, all a myth invented by the media ten years or so ago.
