Re: Your best 22 v North Melbourne
I didn't rate Geary above Schneider, I said Schnieder would need to earn his spot back in the team.
If you're asking me do I think Geary should be in, well yes I think so.
Feel free to disagree, that's what discussion is afterall.
As for Jones...
When you compare Jones to say a Selwood from WCE, or a Carrazzo from Carlton, he doesn't hurt enough the other way....he used to, but not in recent times.
It's just an opinion sRs.
I think you can't afford a purely negating player anymore, Dempster certainly hurts the other way now and plays on more, has a more balanced mindset.
Perhaps they could challenge Clint to take on the game more.

Re: Your best 22 v North Melbourne
At present Geary is composed, effective and hard at the contest - you can't ask much more of that from someone his size and position.
Gwilt Simpkin Geary
Goddard Fisher Dempster
Gilbert Hayes Gram
Sipposs Kosi Schneider
Milne Riewoldt Saad
Onball McEvoy Dal Steven
Bench Monty Stanley Armo CJ
Apologies to the heart n soul Blakey and Raph but that line up looks balanced between flair, stability, experience & youth

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

I think Siposs should be kept in to reward his last two games.
Ben had a shocker, but we have no other option. Hopefully he can play this weekend coming for Sandi to remove some of the rust.

Re: Your best 22 v North Melbourne
I'm going for something a bit different, a team more offensively inclined yet shouldn't struggle defensively...
Gwilt Simpkin Geary
Goddard Fisher Dempster
Gilbert Hayes Ray
Sippos Kosi Schneider
Milera Riewoldt Saad
Stanley Dal Steven
Bench Monty Armo Ledger Ross
Ray (primarily) and Dempster to play the shutdown roles. Both players can play that role well, and hurt opposition teams in the process, unlike CJ.
Ledger comes in to provide additional speed, footskills and tenacity.
Milne is gone. Replaced with Ross. Newnes very unlucky to not get a gig. While it might be strange replacing a forward with a midfielder, I believe we have enough similiar players to cover Milne. Ross appears to be a ripper; tall for a midfielder (187cm) and has excellent footskills.
On a side note, I'd like to see if Newnes play further up the ground, and see if his great footskills off both sides can't be better utilised delivering the ball into the F50.
Big Ben is out. Sorry, but he's too slow, and doesn't win the position he's in the team for (ie the ruck). Stanley to ruck, with Kosi covering.

If Stanley is fit I too would have him straight back in. I think current reports have him out though.saber wrote:I'm going for something a bit different, a team more offensively inclined yet shouldn't struggle defensively...

Re: Your best 22 v North Melbourne
Kosi stays in if fit (playing injured)
CJ - Best tagger in the business
Milne will stay in
Milera - struggling with a bit more attention replaced by Saad
Sipposs (most likely) or blake makes way for Stanley

Re: Your best 22 v North Melbourne
Saad for Milera. Maybe Stanley for Siposs.
That's it. I just don't get all this fantasising about Jones and Blake being dropped: I believe they are two of the first selected each week. And rightly so: they are huge contributors. Kosi is more likely to get dropped than either of them, and he's not likely.
Simpkin is good, but ATM Gwilt and Raph offer more IMO.
Sainter K, I agree with you about most things, but suggesting that CJ be dropped for poor disposal and then to suggest with a straight face that he be replaced by Geary.......Well, I ask you!!!

Oh, and as for dropping Milne
Well, maybe. If Saad, Schneider and Milera were all firing. But Milera isn't, and Milne stays for now

Re: Your best 22 v North Melbourne
Why drop Milne for an Etihad game? He's ok there, just crap elsewhere.saint66au wrote:In: Saad, Wilkes (or Stanley if fit), Simpkin

Agree with Milera and Kosi
i am Melbourne Skies - sometimes Blue Skies, Grey Skies, even Partly Cloudy Skies.
Re: Your best 22 v North Melbourne
Not just disposal...I think part of the reason his DE is so low is his lack of confidence to take the game on.meher baba wrote:Saad for Milera. Maybe Stanley for Siposs.

Have a look at his stats in regards to inside 50's, goals and assists this year.
I just think taggers have to hurt the other way, my point was more along the lines that maybe Newnes or Geary would be willing to surge the ball forward more.
He used to attack more, now he seems only intent on stopping, do you think he'd be expected to do more?
Think of Friday night and Selwood on Judd, or Carrazzo on Kerr....

I would have McEvoy in for Kosi though…
Don't think Ross is ready either - maybe one of Newnes/Cripps/Gram as the sub instead
I would also have Montagna starting on the ground, contrary to popular belief he's been pretty good this year.
I don't think we are a premierships threat at the moment, so would rather see Saad, Stanley, Simpkin learning the game rather than Milne, Kosi & Blake getting us over the line in a couple of extra games this year. (if they do)
Could Geary be tried as a tagger?, reckon he would get a few clearances with his attack on the ball
Jones may be a great tagger, but his opponent have been in the best few many times this year, I don't think we can afford to have midfielders that start in middle who can't kick the ball to advantage.

If Stanley is fit he has to come in but I like the ins of Simpkin, Saad (and Stanley) for youth/development and pace.
Forward line looks dangerous....just not sure in a fully fit line up and without a ruck role....if Blake is in the side....he cant rebound and I dont think hes a full back...
Clarke can provide Grams run/carry and goes harder
Not sure we can continue to carry a specialist tagger that only runs 1 way and doesnt get it and offer anything damaging offensively....that said Jones has been a loyal servant....in time Im hoping a more skillful Ledger offers us shut down and offense.
My only other query is Milera. I know he hasnt been getting tons of it lately....but his speed and carry when we bring the ball into 50 is important....apart from Saad (who plays inside fwd 50)...I think we dont have enough of this (you can see Swans using this with Jetta/Rohan types a lot to improve ballmovement speed).
I still think Milera would be ok off a HBF......but gee...hard to fit them all in..

Me too, even more so for drafting… I'm with Captain Hindsight, much easier 2-3 years later.gringo wrote:It too hard to come up with a coherent team for me. I'd rather see what we get then complain about the selections later.

zero midfielders on the bench? usually the bench has three mids. what chance do you reckon your side has of being picked?ThePunter wrote:Saad Milera Gram Blake
