Right now, with the type of player he is Tommy Ledger would be competing with Lenny Hayes, Jack Steven & David Armitage for a spot in the side. He'd need to be in "VERY SPECIAL" form at VFL level to push any of these guys out. Having read quite a bit about how the guys are going at VFL (but not seeing any live games this year), it would appear that he still has some way to go !!

NEW scarf signature (hopefully with correct spelling) will be here as soon as it arrives !!

maybe that's exactly what development is for tommy - having "his head popped". being an elite footballer isn't just about football, it's about attitude as well.
I highly doubt hes not selected cause he has a big head... I really think he's run over Watters cat

He's 19 and has barely played a bad game at VFL/AFL level yet.

He was excellent Sunday....... He's tough as they come

Case closed. He will be a good player for us hopefully however I do not want to see too many younger players in the side as I actually think we can win most games we play.

A youngen will get injured sooner rather than later and Ledger will have an extended run.

Nothing to really fret or worry over.

True, except I have him well ahead of Cripps whose been given go after go and sub roles etc that Im convinced (even with his supposed non-tank) Ledger could play....he can jag a goal, run and win his own ball......to me hes probably the perfect "impact" player.....and was supposedly good enough Rd 1 but not seen of again despite regular excellent VFL performances?

To all those comparing to Walsh - I dont think Walsh had the extended form in VFL Ledger has.....so its odd.

Some of the VFL watchers believe his "tank" needs more development.

Yet his tank was ok for Rd 1 selection and to be mentioned by Watters as a candidate for inclusion?

Again, IF 'tank' is issue why not sub??

Remember, he had surgery on his hamstring last year, and maybe the club don't want to overload him at this young age. We've seen with Luke Ball that pushing them hard early when they have soft tissue issues can be detrimental to players. He may need a long, solid build up in order to minimize the risk of further hamstring issues.

I am not too concerned, as has been mentioned before, the position he plays, as an inside midfielder, has some pretty tough competition....

I would say he is being groomed to run with jack and armo, when lenny hangs up the boots, or has a rest....

If we have a nice run of wins, and look primed for a finals charge, i would expect that lenny would get a rest, and ledger will get a game or two against the likes of bris, gws etc.

Also, i think crippa gets a shot before him, because he is a bit more versatile, as we have seen him out back, up forward, and wing.

It's because his running isn't hard enough. They've already marked out a huge pre-season for him next year.

Different at the footy. The bloke who I reckon who is " what you see is what you get" is Beaver. Absolutely bleeds the Saints.

Didn't Finey shaft Beaver? Maybe not...

Finey's not a bad bloke. He's got a tough job but he does have morals. I have had a couple of private conversation with him on the telephone and he speaks to you like he's talking on the radio. He really likes talking.. :D

His in and under work is excellent.

As already posted on this thread, its his fitness that is the issue.

His fitness looked OK on the weekend... He pushed harder than most...He does have a side complaint

For a young inside mid it is tough, considering the effor required in packs..... Inside midfielders lose running power due to fatigue.

Interesting footage of Watters miked up at training and he talks to Ledger and says " dont let your body condition dictate your skills...." to me that means 1 of 2 things:

1. His tanks so small hes stuffed at training and struggling to execute
2. Hes carrying some sort of injury

People on the forum are starting to freak out because he hasn't been given full games, but we have to be patient

He'll be good when he can crack it, I'm sure if he could play forward like cripps or previously Jack steven he would've been given a game pretty quickly and we know how Scott emphasises versatility.

He's still got a lot of time, and as we have seen a lot of ability

His time will come sooner rather than later

My concern with kids is that they look for results early. Gen Y kids will look elsewhere quickly if not given opportunity. I would hate to see this OK due to mismanagement. We can never be short of midfielders IMO.

Midfield clearances and clear winners are needed to make an effective forward line.

You need to protect the ball handler to increase posession efficiency

A bit of a worry for me too Kalsaint

Where's Ledger at contract wise?

He surely looks at Cripps and thinks WTF? Not even a sub opportunity?

Unless they have already extended his contract, ledger would be coming out of contract at the end of this year

Because draftees get a 2 year contract as far as I know
