If he wants a 2 year extension he better start performing. Performance=extension. No one gets paid well without performing and so far this season his perfomances don't warrant the longer extension. We would be better off getting some decent picks for him but reckon he would be lucky to get the club a second round pick on his current form.

Joey deserves a 2 year deal, and he'll hopefully get one and do as he indicated in the article and stay a Saint for life..

he's been a great player for a long time, great example off the field, and has plenty more to give..

No personal attack needed as the notion is silly enough without too much deconstruction.

How do you think we could float him around… given he is an unrestricted free agent and choose to go wherever he likes without having to involve a trade?

I don't understand the logic in thinking that he is terrible, yet we could get decent picks for him anyway? Surely you can't get decent picks for a player who is over the hill and never any good in the first place?

How bad has he been really?
09/10 were obviously better but this year he's been solid without being amazing,

4th for possessions
6th for tackles & clearances
#1 for inside 50's

He's not Lenny Hayes, but he's still pretty handy… and I bet most clubs would love to have him

I think that there is some good 'for' and 'against' in this thread. It's great that the culture at the club is cultivating such openly stated commitments by a player like Joey. Let's just hope that whatever deal is, or isnt done, that the club ends up with a player that is value for money.

Agreed, but since we are famously overpaying our stars at the moment and as a result in dire straights regarding the salary cap, he couldn't possibly expect the same coin again from us…

If he needs a large retirement fund then it will have to be at another club, same goes for any of our aging stars, however I don't begrudge anyone wanting their last paycheck to be big

I cannot believe this! Joey has been a great player for us for many years!
He is not an inside midfielder so why do people want him to be? If we had a full midfield of inside players who would they get it out to?

Personally I hope Joey stays! One year, two years or Three. He deserves it.
