Who will ruck for us next few weeks?

Post: # 1220150Post mohannair »

WIth Macca & Rhys out atleast till the bye round who can come in & ruck.

May be Gwilt & Chips can come in & release Blake as the permanent ruck.

Any thoughts?

Only options are Kosi, Blake and Lever.

Probably Blake

Don't really care tbh.

Would rather Blake rucks full time.

More issues than that IMO.

Kosi needs to be in the F50, and we need some quality back in.

Don't care about where, more the who (Gwilt, Fisher, Scheider please!)

We've been smashed by Kreuzer, Cox and Naitanui. Ruck is an issue

In the hitouts, but not the clearances?

Had one more than WCE today, broke even on contested possession.

Last week still won the match.

Just going to have to go in with mostly Blake, and back the guys in to win the ball.

Can be done, has to be done...

I'm more concerned about getting Gwilt & Fisher in to be honest, miss Fish bigtime.

Around the ground K. They smashed us

Yep they did. Our first smashing in the ruck this year but it is hard to pick sides thinking a ruckman will be injured. We certainly couldnt have picked another tall.

Think we will get smashed in the Ruck regardless of who plays there. Therefore leave Kosi in the goal square.

You mean marks inside 50?

Still reckon that had more to do with turnovers and quick entry by WCE that left our defenders with slim to little chance.

Getting good kicks in would be my priority to prevent that in the first place.

Fisher for Wilkes, Gwilt to push Gilbert back up the ground like earlier in the season (or out)

I reckon we should just bring Gwilt and Fisher back in for Stanley and Wilkes. Also, Raph is a possibility, as he played well again in the twos.

Agree.

Winning possession isn't the problem, maintaining it is!

Just leave it as it is, we played probably the best ruck division in the whole comp today and did OK. Our accuraccy in front of goal cost us today early , we cant waiste early oppurtunities like we did today and get away with it. There is nothing we can do about the injuries we have.
Ruck on Blakey and Kosi!!!

Wilkes is hopeless. Almost certain to go at the end of
The season. Limited upside.

Could Gilbert pinch hit - he's 194 and has a reasonable leap? Fisher to come in to the defence and possibly Clarke or Gwilt. These are challenging times.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Kosi needs to really step up for a few weeks.

I agree with the -'Kosi not our best choice for ruck position' argument.

If not McEvoy or Stanley, I wish Roo was played in ruck position, i seriously think he'd be great. He's far less likely to make glaring errors or give away free kicks. Then we can leave Kos on the forward line.

Milera got a few hit outs today. Maybe he can ruck? :)

Until McEvoy returns we're at a severe disadvantage regardless of who takes the contest. If Blake rucks we lose a capable defender, if Kosi rucks we lose our most potent full forward option. It seemed like we could almost cover it with Stanley in the side - but now he's injured. :(

Tough few weeks ahead.

True.

Though Battye, bit of a relief that Fisher & Jimmy could return this week, leaving Blake to ruck hopefully 70%....

Need Kosi more in the F50, Roo was great today....and crashed more contests than usual I thought, but Kosi was taking ripper contested marks before they had to shift him last week.

Mummy may be due back this week, not sure....anyone know?

Yeah, the more time Kosi spends in the goal square the better off we are. I don't mind Kosi in the ruck for short bursts - it wasn't evident this week but usually he's pretty good at taking the saving mark in the back 50 - but he's much more threatening in front of goal.

it is a bit funny (in a black way) that we were all concerned about ruck stocks and low and behold our 2 young ruckmen go down in the first 8 weeks....

but when u think about it. i guess playing ruck is very stressful on the body - so it does take its toll on young guys. it is a position for a hard bodied 25-30 year olds who knows their body and how to train etc .
but if we can hang in there and win a couple of games in the next month - we may come home with a wet sail....

from the big picture. injuries make and break teams/seasons.
shame we cant draft a smokie from the 'minor' leagues :-)

have to go with Blake in the ruck with fisher and gwilt and clarke back in down back. and we should give Wilkes more of a go up forward!

I have to say, a run in the ruck might just help Gilbert....
