I see you've made a few friends on the dockers board there…
It wouldn't be just a rumour, Freo have openly said that would be looking at all free agents, as all clubs should. I'm sure Goddards manager will be very busy over the next few months…

haha, there is no chance, in hell, that BJ will go to Freo... Laughable..
Sure, he may go somewhere, we may look to trade him, whatever, I'm not in the know to speculate on that, but I'm certain that Freo is no hope... Bunch of wankers that purple mob are...

Freo is one of the only possibilities in my opinion, and my number 1 pick if he did leave us.
BJ loves Ross. Freo have said they are going to be aggressive at years end. Will probably add 300k to our offer

Can't see for the life of me how???
Our highest paid player will go onto the vetrans list next season???

Re: Salary Cap Pressure - Likely To Lose 1 Big Name Player
I find it amusing that we keep coming up in salary cap discussions. Surely Geelong, Collingwood, Carlton, etc would have more pressure than us? After all, our bottom 6 are hacks and the rest are old has beens. All clubs face pressure.
BJ ain't going anywhere! He loves the place and his team mates. You heard it here first. BJ will be signed up before the years end.

it's possible they've already factored that into contract structures, isn't it?BigMart wrote:Can't see for the life of me how???

Of course they would have unless someone doesnt look at how long players are at the club. Also they would have factored in the increase to the salary cap and contracts would obviously be done with both those in mind. By the way the veterans list and how it works changes next season.

Re: Salary Cap Pressure - Likely To Lose 1 Big Name Player
I think if we lose big name players this year then so be it. We should invest the money wisely by ploughing it back into training facilities, sports science, debt reduction and recruiting. Recruit well at this years draft and maintain our plan for a tilt at a flag in the next 5 to 7 years. We don't have a need for overpriced players that are past their best. For the short term we don't need to worry about selling the shirt off our back to keep them. If reports are accurate then this years draft runs deep and that being the case that should be our focus.

Minimum 9 years (maximum 13) which is backdated from 2003. Guess he could be out anytime soon.Ross who? wrote:Re:Goddard- on a personal front, How long is his brother behind bars for? Very close and can't see him moving interstate IMO

Well, that is good news for BJ and family. Hopefully his bro paid for his crime(s), rehabilitated and will re-integrate successfully into society.Old Mate wrote:Minimum 9 years (maximum 13) which is backdated from 2003. Probably shouldn't underestimate what it must be like to have a family member in such a predicament… Must be a lot to deal with for the entire family, football pails into significance compared to family.

Exactly my point as to a personal or off field reason to stay ( in Melbourne at least)dragit wrote:Probably shouldn't underestimate what it must be like to have a family member in such a predicament… Must be a lot to deal with for the entire family, football pails into significance compared to family.

Maybe we can have some ambassador roles for our players.

Re: Salary Cap Pressure - Likely To Lose 1 Big Name Player
IMO Goddard looked more frustrated than anyone last year with our game style.
Would he really want to play that god awful way under Lyon again?
Don't panic people, we might be looking like a pretty attractive prospect come years end...
There is a long way to go yet.
