Saad to Stanley

Post: # 1218139Post taz »

How good was that passage of play !!

Saad pusuing the ball at full pace with 2 Carlton players in hot pursuit.

He bends and picks up the rolling ball and then looks over the left shoulder to see Stanley closing in. Saad the steps to his left just as hes tackled and instictively knows Stanley has crossed to his right so blind handballs to Stanley. Stanelycollects cleanly then fires up the afterburners and takes off like a RAILGUN !!! WHHHOOOOOO!

Carlton player in pursuit drops his head and gives up the chase.

GOOOOOOAAAALLLLL !!!!

LOVE IT!

Followed by my favourite bit of commentary 'blistering speed by the Saints'. Can't tell you how many times I replayed that passage of play.

I was sitting at the ground and looked up the ground to see Saad as the last player (on the defensive centre square line) and seriously was just thinking "wouldn't it be something if there was a long bomb out of defence that he could run onto' and then there goes Sammy with the big roost. Brilliant goal

This was such a sweet moment because they've always troubled us with pace and - voila!! - gave them a bit of grief going the other way

A bit of grief? A touch understated there. I'd say we ran rings around em, playing the same style of speedy attack!!

An astonishing performance.

And the footy world duly took note of it.

First paragraph of Michael Gleeson's write-up in The Age:

"WHEN it was a good side, playing and not quite winning grand finals, St Kilda never looked this good. The Saints were effective but they never looked quite like this. They were many things then, but exciting was not one of them. Last night St Kilda was exciting."

This may not last, but if it does, then we are heading in the right direction. I'm hanging to see the replay for myself (c'mon LiveAFL for flip's sake), but from ALL reports we attacked like we haven't since the Thomas era.

So let's hear a big loud week-long cheer for the Saints! I implore you to get behind the team for the next few weeks and make use of this momentum.
