Pretty sure that Goldsack was heading to North Melbourne and not St Kilda if he was going anywhere...The deal fell through because Collingwood coulnd't get an adequate pick from North to compensate us for Ball. So instead of pick 22 & 30 (or something like that) Collingwood offered pick 30 & 60 (which we were never going to use).Con Gorozidis wrote:hate to drag/rehash this topic up.
But we could probably do with Tson Goldsack down back this year with Zac gone.
If that flog-pot Lyon had taken him for Ball wed all be feeling a little better now.
Time for Roo to go back.

Re: Time for Roo to go back.
Worth a punt would probably be good for roo to double, triple team a few forwards. I can only think he would make a great defender. It's a problem when we can't play for eg dal in the forward pocket cause we need him in the centre or Goddard to hf cause we need him in defence or roo at hb cause we need him forward, let's play them were there most suited. See what happens.

Re: Time for Roo to go back.
Absolutely agree, I have been calling for Roo at CHB for a while, the only concern was robbing Peter (fwd line) to pay Paul. However, Wilkes' game against Melbourne may mean, and it's still an if, that we have uncovered a power forward. He's quick on a lead, can take a contested grab and appears to be a good kick for goal. If a forward line of Kosi, Wilkes and Stanley can function effectively, giving us the luxury to play Roo at CHB (even when Fisher gets back). That would mean Goddard could play forward of centre and also spend more time in the forward line. There are still a few ifs, however if it is tried and comes off, in an even season it may be just the thing to make us a contender.
Re: Time for Roo to go back.
Can Roo play BJ's role as the spare parts man in defense??... Third man up, peeling off??
Then put BJ to CHF??... Sure he'd play it in a different way, but he'd have to be matched up... he can roam up high, then push deep into attack...
A defense with the core of Chips, Simpkin, Gwilt, Gilbo and Roo with a rotating Geary/Dempster/whoever, re match-ups sounds good...
Forward of Kosi, Stanley, BJ, Milne, Milera, + resting/rotating mids would still be a handful (if our mids win enough of the ball)..

I'd like to see it, but if it was going to happen you'd reckon it may have in NAB.
He certainly has the smarts and the field kicking for the task.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

It's an interesting proposition but won't happen.
I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

I just wonder why you would do it after probably his best game for the year and against top opposition. I know it is because of injuries but surely you keep your inform players in their best position and try to work on other options. Just like putting Kosi in the ruck this week. Surely we would see how he and others are going before moving our best forward last week out of the forward line.

I agree with you. Now, season alive, is not the time for experimenting to that extent. I'd just like to see him try. But NAB's and intra's are the time for that. Not a 3-4/4-3 game v a competition frontrunner.plugger66 wrote:Thinline wrote:I'd like to see it, but if it was going to happen you'd reckon it may have in NAB.

Re: Time for Roo to go back.
My Wife and I were discussing exactly this last week.
To win games we need a stronger defense. The only player currently playing forward, capable of playing defense is Riewoldt.
We are in a desperate situation with the season on the line. Desperate times, desperate measures. It just might work.
If I was Ratten, I would play Kreuser or Hampton, Walker and Waite forward to expose our lack of tall backs. We will get smashed if we don't try something different.
