Why don't you start digging your own grave now for the inevitable!saintspremiers wrote:Margin wise I'd be happy with 6 goal or less defeat.
It's likely to be worse. The way we played in the first 3 terms against the Hawks was the best we can hope for. If we only play 2 good quarters against Carlton then expect a ten goal shellacking.
Thoughts ?

In Springfield, they're eating the dogs. The people that came in, they're eating the cats. They’re eating – they are eating the pets of the people that live there.

Sorry , but the pedant in me is coming out to confuse everyone.kosifantutti wrote:I understand what you are trying to say but in Mathematics -2 is less than -1, -3 is less than -2 etc. so I would want a losing margin of -1 or less.Dave McNamara wrote:Hi Kosi, to clarify, I'm afraid I've unnecessarily complicated matters by focusing on this thread's theme of a losing margin.kosifantutti wrote:-1 point or less
I take a losing margin of say 6 goals as a 36 point loss. So the opposite would be a loss of negative 36 points. Which would actually be a win by 36 points, as mathematically two negatives make a positive.
Hence my settling for the negative 1 point or greater (eg negative 36 points) losing margin.
Sorry about the confusion.
Saying -1 or greater would include positive losing margins which are unacceptable against Carlton or anyone.
Mathematically -2 is < -1, etc. But what I'm trying to get across in my convoluted way is to take the word 'loss' as a negative. In other words, the negative of negative 36 is positive 36. Ie; a 36 point win. (- -36 = +36. )
I know, I'm being a clear as mud, ...or as murky as the morals of the Dawks in M10(?) at the 'G.

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
IMO we will get belted next week and for the following two weeks.
Carton basically had a bye (GWS) and we got touched up. Carlton's fast break football will cause us all sorts of issues as the Hawks quick and precise movement did last weekend !
WCE are unbeatable over there this year!
Sydney will have too much midfield grunt!

Might as well just pack up and go home then.
Hell might as well give them the 4 points now and 5% for their percentage to go with...

There is no such thing - just as there is no such thing as a good loss in this professional game.

The loss against the Hawks was ok considering Fisher was gone at half time.oh when the wrote:There is no such thing - just as there is no such thing as a good loss in this professional game.
We were very efficient when we got it up fwd and were conpetitive for three quarters.

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
See this is the problem. As a club we have always accepted mediocrity. Would Man U accept the loss saying , "well it's ok, we didn't have Rooney", or would Mathews have said to his Lions " thats a good loss" to players like Voss and co? As supporters we must demand success, and the players must beleive that in sport, anything can happen. No such thing as an acceptable loss in sport. if you think that way, youbshouldn't be involved in it.saintspremiers wrote:The loss against the Hawks was ok considering Fisher was gone at half time.oh when the wrote:There is no such thing - just as there is no such thing as a good loss in this professional game.

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
An acceptable loss would be the pessimism of a few saints fans after a good win over the blues.
An encouraging gain would be the renewed belief of potentially more good wins coming our way.

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
The only loss I would accept would be one that results in no injuries or reports to us, and minimal percentage damage (3-4 goals loss) and pyrrhic victory for Carlton.

If we can just knock out a couple of their small forwards we should be right.
