Sits comfortably among the elite of his generation for his onfield performance despite being double and triple teamed throughout his career. As a captain and leader, his impact on club culture and player professionalism has been enormous. I have a feeling that, had he been 100% fit for the GF's, his standing in the game would be beyond question and perhaps we would have some silverware to show for it. No doubt his goal kicking in the second half of his career was not as good as the first half, who knows why - maybe the degenerative knees.
I'd rather appreciate the many great memories in what has been an outstanding career

Two things I want to clear up.
1. I am not a troll as some people would like you to believe.
2. I am not bagging Riewoldt as such. It's not his fault that he was made captain. The fact is IMHO, he is a very very good player but he is not a champion as many Sainters want the football world to believe. He tries his guts out but most of that is wasted with bad kicking for goal. Most, not all.
If Lenny Hayes was captain over the last 6 years who knows what may or may not have happened. We will never know unfortunately.
In my opinion, Reiwoldt is a slightly better player than Lowe was which in itself means he is a very very good player.

There is no scientific test to determine if someone’s a champion. It’s subjective. It’s a title that is bestowed on you by others.citywest wrote:I am not bagging Riewoldt as such. Quite simply, you are a champion if the majority of people think you’re a champion.
And on that assessment, Riewoldt is a champion.

Good point, I'll pay that one Doc.Dr Spaceman wrote:There is no scientific test to determine if someone’s a champion. It’s subjective. Lenny does not need a title to get the best out of himself. I think Riewoldt does and he thrives on leadership. Because of this I think the club made the right decision on having him captain for the last whatever years. Making him captain this year though....I think a change this year would have been the way to go.

Just because Roo is our captain doesn't mean we all have to think the sun shines out of him.
Yes, he's an amazing player and yes, he's given his all to the St. Kilda Football Club. But why should we have to hang our heads in shame for stating the obvious. He's paid a bucket load of cash to kick goals, yet struggles to do so, particularly when he needs to earn his pay check the most. Doesn't make me any less of a supporter.

Bad management is bad management

no one is blaming him for the entire loss but most are saying he should have kicked the goal. He does need to take a MASSIVE paycut next year though. We need to keep our young and mature stars and his paycheck isnt helping

His current contract is still running next year. He'll still be on a mill.andrewg wrote:no one is blaming him for the entire loss but most are saying he should have kicked the goal. If this is true then that is ridiculous.Old Mate wrote:His current contract is still running next year.
