What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
Margin wise I'd be happy with 6 goal or less defeat.
It's likely to be worse. The way we played in the first 3 terms against the Hawks was the best we can hope for. If we only play 2 good quarters against Carlton then expect a ten goal shellacking.
Thoughts ?

Acceptable loss? Even if we play like kamikaze men, bloodied and beaten, and nothing else could have been done, I still won't accept a LOSS TO CARLTON!!!

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
What a stupid question ! no loss is acceptable .
We have the ability to win if we can play effective football .
however this will be extremely tough if our mid - field plays as poorly as they did against hawthorn !
Carltons rucks will smash kosi , stanley & blake , so it could get ugly if dal , joey , armo , cj , gram and polo play poorly !

Most people would've had us losing to Carlton even before the injuries to McEvoy & Fisher. Most would've had Big Ben losing the hit outs anyway.mr six o'clock wrote:What a stupid question ! no loss is acceptable .

Perhaps these injuries will mean we'll benefit from facing a complacent opponent.

At Etihad we are always a chance IMO.
Can Dal/Montagna contribute?
The kids?
Ledger has to come in - need his run. Out Polo.
Cripps for Saad.
Would like to see Wilkes get a run........dont know how....

Each team will start with 22 men, 18 on the ground at the first bounce. At that stage, the scores will be level. After that, it's up to them. Go Saints!

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
We can be cheeky against the Blues - they werent' too impressive against the GWS today. We will have learnt a few things that went against us playing Hawthorn and come out with all guns blazing. Will Gwilt come back earlier now that Chips has gone down? Maybe time to bring him in. Carlton won't be pencilling this as a win yet.......................

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
Hi Kosi, to clarify, I'm afraid I've unnecessarily complicated matters by focusing on this thread's theme of a losing margin.kosifantutti wrote:-1 point or lessDave McNamara wrote:Acceptable losing margin(?): -1 point or greater.
I take a losing margin of say 6 goals as a 36 point loss. So the opposite would be a loss of negative 36 points. Which would actually be a win by 36 points, as mathematically two negatives make a positive.
Hence my settling for the negative 1 point or greater (eg negative 36 points) losing margin.
Sorry about the confusion.

Meh.
At least nobody will be firing them up this week.
We may just get a team when they are taking it easy for a change.
You know what I like, my Carlton supporter family is expecting a win, this is the first time in a couple of years.

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
I understand what you are trying to say but in Mathematics -2 is less than -1, -3 is less than -2 etc. so I would want a losing margin of -1 or less.Dave McNamara wrote:Hi Kosi, to clarify, I'm afraid I've unnecessarily complicated matters by focusing on this thread's theme of a losing margin.kosifantutti wrote:-1 point or lessDave McNamara wrote:Acceptable losing margin(?): -1 point or greater.

Saying -1 or greater would include positive losing margins which are unacceptable against Carlton or anyone.

Re: What's an acceptable loss against Carlton?
Agree its very negative, even if some may say its very realistic. As supporters we should be looking to win each game.stkildajason3votes wrote:THE THREAD IS A CARLTON SUPPORTER,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,NO ST.KILDA BELEVES BEFORE A MATCH WE WILL LOSE!!!!!!!!!!!
"Acceptable losses" is something we can evaluate after the game if and when we fall short.

DISIPLINE - FREE KICKS & 50 METERS
DISIPLINE
St.Kilda players need a dictionary and glance this word up. I’ve watched live all Melbourne games including our intra club match at Seaford. Initially, we give to many head high tackles away whether in general play or out of frustration in our forward line (i.e. didn’t take the mark so grab the opposition around the neck to wrestle with or sling tackle him, exception, Nick just goes back on the mark). This gives the opportunity to alleviate the pressure for the side’s defensive line. (I’m sick of it). The ones around the ground are just easy effortless that presently shouldn’t exist there. All players are familiar with you can’t grind players into the ground but we still do it. (Some players more than others need to learn how to tackle at the hips trying to keep a hand trapped).
Succeeding high tackles, the further thing that gets my goat is (50 metre penalty) is nearly in soccer terms a shot in the box. Players have to understand that in excess of over 100 years an umpire has not been conversed into changing his decision and it doesn’t help when you swear at him and argue continuously about the freekick. Going over the mark, running through the mark, not throwing the ball back on the full, knocking the ball out of the players hand and defending late just to seem like you made an contest, just to name a few. A 50 metre especially with the hard presses is an element of the game our side should never grant another side. When you get down to the nuts and bolts of it 50 metres penalty is a great kick that has been marked by the opposition down the line uncontested. This inevitably sets a goal up the majority of times. Past precedence has proved this fact.
We have no control over othersides but we can control our backyard!!!!!!!!! Jason
