Would you be happy to change our name for stronghold in NZ?

The idea of playing 3 or 4 games a year in NZ is sensational. It will set-up our club financialy and hopefully secure our place in the AFL. HOWEVER, IF THEY ARE CHANGING OUR NAME THEY CAN GO AND GET f***ed!!!!!!!

isn't the whole point of the move to seaford + alliance with Sandy to establish our identify down the south east corridor
no name change for mine
Yep this. Have only just arrived at Seaford with a long term plan and now it's off to NZ and a name change. FFS.

It must be a joke? Change our name when we play in NZ? Does that mean the Hawks turn into "the Hawks Tasmanian" when they play down there?

St Kilda set to shoot down NZ report that the club would change its name to "The Saints". Will remain St Kilda FC.

No point picking up NZ fans with a name change if you lose traditional fans with the name change.

I wonder if the story was a bit of a beat up all along... or, if the Board was looking at something similar, but retreated rapidly due to the death threats?
...they sure seem to have reacted quickly(???)

The AFL and St Kilda are kidding themselves if they think they are going to make an inprint on Rugby in NZ. The game (rugby) is more of an institution to the Kiwis than AFL is Victorians so if they think they are going to get any support for an Australian based team over there they are in for a rude shock!

Wekl the correct pronunciatio of St Kilda...is actually Snt Kilda. The Jeff wrote:Sunt Wullingtin?
No need for a name change anyway...
St Kilda is Scottish in origin...and there was a very big Scottish influence on colonial settlement of NZ...and hence all the cities with Scottish names.
So St Kilda would fit right in.
If you are going to make the move you want to try and grab the entire NZ population and not just wellington which is basically just a very large suburb.

Great opportunity to bring Plugger out of retirement, he could be known as "Beef Wellington".

“The St Kilda Football Club will not being changing its name.”
“The Football Club has been St Kilda and the Saints for the past 139 years, and there are no plans to change the name.”
“St Kilda may consider using the ‘Saints’ name to promote the Club when playing in Wellington, New Zealand."

Relax eveyone !
To change the name of the club would require a vote by the members !
I believe most members would be strongly against a name change , so it is highly unlikely .
However , i'll look forward this week to the gun journos like hutchy and barret , reporting that the wullington seints es a dun deel , choice bro !

Bloody nightmare nettlefold....Just bloody do your job and stop looking for ways to sell out the club and it's supporters.

Re: Would you be happy to change our name for stronghold in
People are in fantasy land. We already have a stronghold in southern Melbourne - population 1 million.
Wellington has .5 million and I can guarantee 99% of kiwis will never convert to Aussie Rules. It is a matter of national pride for them. ABs then Super 15 and THEN provincial rugby. Many kiwis living in nz have a real chip on their shoulder and wont even give aussie rules a fair chance.
People and Nettlefold need to take a big cold shower on this and not over estimate and mis-read what can be done in NZ.
1 game per year is realistic sponsored by the AFL and NZ tourism. That is all we should aim for. Ill go over for that.

stop panicking for gawds sake.
it was never going to happen, 100% pure beat up. CEO has already denied it.
if they changed the name at all (i don't think they will) it would probably be South Eastern Saints or Southern Saints. That takes care of NZ and Gippsland, Frankston, etc.
It will never happen, shame on anyone here thinking our club would sell its heritage so cheaply.

Seeing we are based at Belvedere Park down at Seaford, we could call ourselves " The Belvederes ", I reckon the Sainter supporters would love that name..... Comments please ( be nice)

im predicting we do 1 game a year in welli + a sponsorship deal for the jumper. thats as far as it will ever go.
u cant compare nz with tassie - apart from it being green and cold. apart from that no comparison. kiwis WILL NOT be interested in our game.
