Can we win one of our next four?

Post: # 1212455Post saintspremiers »

Hawks, Carlton, WCE (Perth). Sydney (Docklands).

I don't know how and who or why but my gut tells me we will one of those four.

That would leave us 4-5 after Round 9 and about 10th on the ladder.

We might still be able to sneak into 8th spot at season end.

Our recent record (last few years) is pretty good against those.

Admittedly our form hasn't been that flash, but sometimes it good quality competition to bring out the best in a team. So let's hope that is what happens.

We took it up to Carlton last year when we were hardly travelling too well. So maybe them or Sydney. But we will need to bring our A game obviously

realistically hawthorn, carlton and sydney we have a great chance in - would hope we go atleast 2/3 in were serious about "12". The eagles over their is the only loss in my book

We would have to improve a hell of a lot on last night's performance to be even competitive with these sides.
They weren't switiched on last night, they put very little pressure on Melbourne and allowed melbourne to get the ball out of our forward area way to early.
Do that next week and we will get flogged.
The only positives from last night was the 4 points, Armitage and Stevens.
There we're some big names last night that we're very ordinary, and thought they just had to show up to win.
Of course luck can always play a part, so knows who may get injured or reported down in Tassie today.
Despite criticism of last night's performance, we are quite capapble of beating all these sides, we just have to bring it over the next 4 weeks.

Except for the sanity nothing much has been lost.

we cant beat the eagles and umpires who will be favouring them disgustingly.

We can beat hawthorn carlton and sydney though.

We beat carlton last year, narrowly lost to sydney and the hawthorn game is a blur.

I would really like to roll the hawks next week. Hopefully the players are keen for a battle.

we blew our chances against freo and adelaide with a little help from the umpires. With could have been 5 and zip tbh and our confidence sky high.
The reality is much of this game is played between the ears.
We are capable of winning all 4 and losing all 4.

In our game against the hawks last year we were leading by 5 gosls at quarter time and went on to loose by 5 goals

an example of being psyched out.
We are good enough.

We will win two Hawks and beat either Carlton or Sydney.

WCE should also be tight we play well.

We cannot win all 4. That would involve us also becoming premiership favourites.

Good teams do not lose to Port Adelaide.

We can win our next four but we'd have to improve out of sight to do so.

As of now we are considered underdogs in all games. Saying that I think we are capable of winning them all with the exception of the Eagles game. I'll be very happy if we win two of them.

Aside from stepping up in a big way generally, I think we'd have to pull a bit of a rabbit out of the hat in order to win more of those 4 than we lose.

After seeing how comfortable Wilkes looked at FF last night (especially before it started raining at the end of the 1st quarter) and given how Kosi is back to kicking a few goals this season and Rhys is giving us a terrific lead-up option, maybe that move would be Roo to either CHB (freeing Sam Fisher up to play loose in defence, where he is so damaging), or loose in defence himself.

I don't really see us beating the likes of Hawthorn or Carlton or West Coast (especially over there), with the set-up we've had so far this year, but if Wilkes is able to kick the 2-3 (or more) a week that Roo is kicking at the moment, then sending Roo back to loose in defence, for example, might just tip those games in our favour (if we also lift in other areas).

Imagine Roo just sitting in the hole in front of Buddy, or Waite, or Kennedy/Darling and what a monstrous pain in the ass that would be for them. Roo would just be able to pick off the kicks to them all day, or at the very least get a fist to most of them and would then be able to use his excellent ground kicking to help clear the ball out of our backline.

With Gwilt hopefully back there to also help out in the next few weeks, that would give us a potentially very powerful backline again, which has been the cornerstone of our best footy in the last few years.

We've showed in the past 3 years that we can win games without Roo in our team at all, so we can again manage without him forward (especially now that we have Rhys and Wilkes and Milera (and maybe/hopefully Siposs) who we didn't have then), but add him to our backline and he could get back to dominating games again, which he isn't really doing up forward at the moment.

I think that move could genuinely give us a serious chance in these games.

I think it's worth a shot, given our need for a bit more height in defence. With Kosi, Wilkes and Stanley in the side we have quite a few options, so Roo or Wilkes could go back. That sort of move might prolong Roo's career as well.

We still have a very good %, which can be worth 4 points later on in the year. If we are destined to lose some games in the next 4 weeks - and I am confiedent we can give a good showing against Dawks, Wet toast( sure, Carlscum and Swines will be tough too, but on the day we are more than capable), anyway, what I'm trying to say is, if a game is getting away from us in the final qtr, we must limit the damage to our percentage

.

We have had a very easy draw to date...so don't get too excited as that will even out. But yes it is handy that we pumped both GC and the Dogs.

North for example gets to play GC and GWS twice each.

Unfortunately, we will feel the WRATH of a Hawthorn rebound next week.

gibson went of with an ankle. no gibson will seriously hurt their backline and fwd line structure.

they will be forced to play roughhead down back for the entirety of the game. taking gibson out would be like us missing fisher.

i am worried about 1 or 2 of our players getting hit by the MRP. they always find a way to screw us.

After just watching Hawthorn v Sydney, Hawks are now very beatable.

True, but they have a lot of quality. If they mentally turn it on for a really sharp quarter next week they could easily blow us out of the park.

Then again, if BJ decides to play a full game of footy and fires up for the ball, it could even things out....
