As bad a decision as Luke Ball GF !
As bad a decision as Luke Ball GF ! Taking Wilkes off is as bad as decision I have seen from a senior AFL coach, since RL not playing LB in GF. Gilbert hasn't touched either has Cripps I can't believe that decision!
SAINTS another day older another day closer to the Holy Grail!
Re: As bad a decision as Luke Ball GF !
Dont care if it was pre planned or not. Surely Watters is willing to change his thought during a match.

Why didn't he sub Riewoldt off? He is playing garbage football. O, I forgot, he is Nick Riewoldt and he never plays bad!

Gilbert, Geary or Blake should have come off. They have all been disgraceful.

Exactly. The guy didn't want the red vest. You could easily see he was jacked with the stupid decision.jonesy wrote:What a comprehensive load of sh*t! Covering his a$$ for a totally inept decision

Re: As bad a decision as Luke Ball GF !
Plenty of well paid players at the club who should have been subbed before Wilkes....he'll be back at Sandy next week...
That'll be his reward for showing up the so called stars of the club..

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
Re: As bad a decision as Luke Ball GF !
Oh for goodness sake guys.
It was actually the perfect decision.
The last quarter was always going to be full of stoppages, holding on for dear life, contested footy....Polo was just what was needed.
Did you honestly think it was going to pretty?

Well said, the usual footy experts showing their usual football knowledge.
Polo was very good in close and at the contests all through the last quarter.

What was that?
Sorry cant hear you.
How many was it again?
Lance or James??

Yes, because taking Wilkes off and putting Polo on had a huge say in that.joffaboy wrote:SainterK wrote:Oh for goodness sake guys.

Re: As bad a decision as Luke Ball GF !
This actually turned out to be spot on. Polo played really well when he came on - better than I expected. And Riewoldt also played very well in the last 1/4. Wilkes had kicked 3 goals from 4 kicks - good enough to stay on if injury free. For now, I'll back the coaching the staff though.SainterK wrote:Oh for goodness sake guys.

I love the move.
It was ballsy (not ladylike, but in this circumstance, completely appropriate)
He knew that the last quarter was going to be what it was, dare I say it, but I think we have a 'match day coach'

No you guys are missing the point that there were other passengers tonight that deserved to be subbed before Wilkes.

I think the point was Wilkes had a slight tweak.
Don't believe the coach if you don't want to, but I'm with him on this.
Some rather embarrassing comments here...

How can taking a supposedly injured player off be called "ballsy" and "match day coach" defining?SainterK wrote:I love the move.

IF Wilkes wasnt injured it was dumb - pure and simple. We kicked 1.4 or 1.5 in the last, constantly bombed the ball in there and couldnt take a mark to save our life. Milne sagged off out the back and until Gartlett got injured was being pantsed in the last. Riewoldt was nowhere near it. Had Wilkes not been injured (would like to hear more on this) whose to say we couldnt have won by 4 or 5?
I too reckon Polo on as a sub was a good move - Id have bought him on for Gram/Cripps IF Wilkes wasnt injured.....
Wouldnt call that move "ballsy" though.....
