The Curse of Lenny

Post: # 1210743Post bergholt »

Four games so far this year and Lenny's kicked:

R1: 0.2
R2: 0.1
R3: 0.1
R4: 0.1

Zero goals, five points for the year! He's too good for that, though he's never been a goalkicker - 82.87 in his career.

Bets on which quarter of which game he'll break the streak?

It's disappointing all around about Lenny's goalkicking. You would think that with the time that he has been in the game and how diligent he is about his training, he would have been able to work on and fix his only problem area.

it seems that old kicking habits are much harder to fix, than you would think.

Sweet christ I thought this was going to be about a reinjury or some such...f*** me...

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Our 2 best mids of the past 25 years, 2 of our best ever players, have both had one glaring weakness in an inability to hit the scoreboard regularly, with the occasional bag...

Harv's perhaps would have looked toward the goals more regularly if he didn't have Plugger there to demand it, and he seems to have passed this unselfish baton to Lenny...

What's the general thinking about a comback from a knee?
Two years? First year just getting back into the game and the second year for the knee to be back to normal, so don't expect miracles especially 4 weeks in.
Plus, let's forget about the whole knee thing and look to the leadership and inspiration he provides for the other players when h'es out there.
That's worth more than any goal or point he has kicked, so get off his back.

No one is on his back... Lenny is a Saints great, and has come back from his injury in marvelous form... Close to leading our B&F... I'm pretty sure we all love the man...

He doesnt kick many goals... This is a fact... I'm sure he'd agree that hitting the scoreboard more often would have been a handy trait to have throughout his career.. It hasn't, but he's still a champion..

Chill out.

He's not a goal kicker and I'm ok with that if he is getting 30 disposals per week like he has the last two weeks

It's Joey, Dal, Jack and Armo who should be hitting the scoreboard

Reckon Dal& Joe get more opportunities streaming forward, when Lenny gets a shot it's normally in heavy traffic.

This is Lenny's 14th year with the Saints. In only one of them, has he had more scoring shots than games, and that was in 2005 when he kicked 10 goals 15 behinds from 24 games. This year, he has had 5 scoring shots (for 5 behinds) from 4 games, a slightly better ratio and, therefore, an all time high. He has never been a prolific scorer, but he is like most midfielders in that regard with similar statistics to players like Joel Selwood and Simon Black. He is certainly not in Chris Judd's goal kicking class, but not even he averages one goal a match. Lenny misses shots more than he should, however. In that regard, he is a true Saints player.

odd choice of title for the thread :? odd choice of player to be picking up on non-scoring :? Lenny to my mind has only one "curse" and that is to be (at times) playing among teamates who don't have a fraction of his ticker!!!!

Lenny has never been a consistent goal kicker, but he's 32 and just come off his second knee reco.

Lenny was no different in 07, coming off his first. Him and the scoreboard were strangers.

Does doing an ACL mean it hinders your goal kicking ability? Probably not, but I would never call it a curse, particularly after 4 rounds.

I think this could be the new and improved version of the opener for "Lunch with Lenny"

BTW have we had a recent episode of "LWL" lately?
