Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
In an interview on SEN on Saturday, Scott said that he would be contacting umpires boss, Jeff Geischen early this week seeking clarification on the rules and the NON- awarding of Free Kicks to Nick Riewoldt during Friday Night's game. By going public BEFORE he speaks to the AFL suggests that Scotty has had a gutful and is applying as much pressure as possible to ensure Nick gets a FAIR GO from the umpires !!

Good. Hopefully this will highlight an extremely poor showing in general by the umpires on Friday night.

But plugger will keep defending the umps and the AFL.
Where the Faark is a proper investigation re umpires and how it can be done better?
They missed plenty of obvious Freo frees also.
Something is wrong. Surely it can be done much better.
I can handle the 50/50's not being paid. The AFL should review on tape how many obvious frees are
Missed and release those stats. That's the key issue that needs fixing.

Plugger only ever really saps the emotion out of the umpiring debate. I think his umpiring observations are usually pretty accurate to be honest.saintspremiers wrote:But plugger will keep defending the umps and the AFL.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Re: Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
Was a pathetic display across many games over the weekend. All kicked off on Friday night with an incredibly poor performance from the umps. There is no accountabilty. A game that is worth so much in TV rights, not to mention all the betting that hangs off it and we can't get this part of the game right. It deserves the question to be asked. And it wasn't just Roo that needed some help...there were so many confusing, inconsistent rulings it almost made it unwatchable on Friday. I have never had so many oppostition team supporters mention how poor the umpiring was in our game as I have this weekend. Anyone who is arguing it was ok has rocks in their head!

Re: Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
Great the new Thommo. Whispers in the sky all over again. Collingwood had them scared with Eddie able to bully the Giesh when ever he needed to. Scott has landed in a team that the AFL couldn't give a f%$# about and is stirring the hornets nest. Very bad idea. North also want to know why the new video review sometimes gives benefit of doubt to the goal kicker and sometimes to the defender. Great policy when the umps aren't really sure of the rule and can't even start to deliver it consistently.

Re: Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
As an aside to the sub-standard umpiring on Friday night, it appears, the referee in the
A-League final last night who gave a last minute penalty to the Brisbane Roar.
Well it appears, the man lives in Brisbane and his wife works in the media department of the Brisbane Roar according to SEN.
Er, conflict of interest methinks which he should have declared!
Makes you wonder what goes on within the umpiring department here.
At the very least they failed their eye examinations with OPSM and left their seeing eye dogs at home.

Another crap organisation with poor direction at the top. Although at least the AFL no longer has crazy egomaniac owners to deal with-Eddie doesn't actually own Collingwood.

Should get Dean Laidley to speak to them. He didnt hide any words at the end of the game Fu**** Bull*** and i cant lip read!
Before Im 85
Re: Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
I don't get how a bloke that had no success coaching either West Perth or Richmond can be in charge of umpiring for the AFl. As the great Mr. Laidley said: "Ken Bullshiit"
I'm livin' in a madhouse
Re: Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
to be fair, Scott was simply responding to a leading question put to him by Robbo (who has repeatedly and publicly made the point that we were harshly dealt with on the weekend). When asked whether he would be asking "questions of clarification" of the umpiring dept, Scott simply agreed that he would be. And to his credit, added that if his players had made the most of their opportunities, we wouldn't be sitting and questioning umpiring decisions.

Re: Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
Players need to improve. Umpires need to improve. Sounds like Scotty has it covered. Players will agree they weren't their best, let's hope the umps are as honest.

Re: Scott W talking to Umps Boss !!
Whilst its really easy for all of us "Armchair Experts" to criticise the umpires, we are mainly coming from a position of ignorant bias. If, on the other hand the AFL opened up the performance of the umpires to the public by publishing all the "Missed & Unwarranted" Free Kicks, as well as rating the umpires (individually & collectively) publicly then we could all have a (hopefully) fair & reasonable debate on their performance each week !!
