Re: Incompetent umpiring
Yeah. I couldn't understand the uproar at the Port Adelaide game, but the number of frees that went unpaid in front of our goal in this game was disgraceful.

Re: Incompetent umpiring
Umpiring probably didn't turn the match - sure, some of the missed frees were at pretty crucial times - but overall it looked to me like the two teams were pretty evenly matched.Little Dozer wrote:Blaming the umpires for losing to Freo in Melbourne? Get real...
Probably this is the best indicator to date that we are a middle rung team, at best, now.

Re: Incompetent umpiring
We butchered it. Missed easy shots at goal. How on earth does Dean Polo get a game? We were clearly out-coached tonight as well which is the most infuriating thing. You should never lose to Freo at home, regardless.SteveStevens66 wrote:won contested ball, clearances, tackles, possessions, etc. theres not MUCH we did wrong.Little Dozer wrote:Blaming the umpires for losing to Freo in Melbourne? Re: Incompetent umpiring
Bingo. There were some appalling decisions, none of which SHOULD have had any bearing on the game whatsoever...we successfully dudded ourselves out of 4 points by playing like chumps.matrix wrote:except turn the friggin cherry over

Re: Incompetent umpiring
Lost count of the amount of times I heard the commentators questioning non paid clear frees for us.
Crucified us at crucial times in crucial areas.
I've had enough - raped in two of our four games. Should be 4-0 and confident.

They were, which is why those crucial decisions that went against us were so costly. Maybe the AFL has decreed that Fremantle will finish top 4 and that Saints have had their turn.battye wrote:Umpiring probably didn't turn the match - sure, some of the missed frees were at pretty crucial times - but overall it looked to me like the two teams we're evenly matched.Little Dozer wrote:Blaming the umpires for losing to Freo in Melbourne? From what I saw tonight, Freo will be lucky to make the finals, let alone top 4.bigcarl wrote:They were, which is why those crucial decisions that went against us were so costly. Re: Incompetent umpiring
In this day I can not believe the polar opposites in umpire interpretation of rules from 1 team to the next. Its incompetence and Nothing will be said or done about it. Starting to feel this comp is very much rigged...
“Yeah….nah””
Re: Incompetent umpiring
Agree 100%. Anyone who says the umpires didnt affect the result of tonights game has rocks in their head. Sure we had plenty of chances to win despite the umpiring, but tonight we were a 5 goal better team. Every 50/50 decision went Freos way, how can they possibly be so influential? Breaks my heart to see the boys play out of their skins and still get bent over... f'ing jokeSolar wrote:so over it, so F%&CKING OVER IT! Two sets of rules out there tonight. Re: Incompetent umpiring
I admire Freos pluck, their hard run and application and their adherence to the Lyon mantra, and we were wasteful and innacurate. But if that game wasnt decided by frankly inept officialdom ill eat my feet. I am frankly astounded at four holding the ball decisions (all within range), Kosi's free paid against for something when it should have been paid to him for a clear hold, and two blatant head whacks/ arm chops on Roo that were beyond blatant. Just appalling. Staggering, in fact. That is eight scoring opportunities. EIGHT.
"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Re: Incompetent umpiring
They hate paying them close to goal with the game on the line don't they? Dawson was all over Kosi. They are quick to penalise his clumsiness, but hardly ever give him a thing in return. The free-kicks I think were about even, but that doesn't tell the story.
But, we had our chances. Just got to suck it up.

Given tonight's performance, I'd hate to see what we would have done with those 8 scoring shots...I'm figuring we would have only lost by a point!Thinline wrote:That is eight scoring opportunities. EIGHT.

I think as a team we are at the stage where these sort of matches can go either way. A few years ago I would have been fuming if we'd put this game down, but I think now it's par for the course. Still fuming that we put the Port game down though, I don't think we've fallen that far...
