It's actually Winbanks however you need to play at least 3 games for the Saints to have made my cosmic list and big Tattslotto unfortunately only played 2

That said his 5 possessions, 2 marks and 1 hit out were all quality and I was mildly suprised when we didn't keep him on

But hey that was the 80's and crazy s*** happened in the 80's ...... with the emphasis squarely on s***!!!!

Amazing to think that he notched up 100 career goals by the age of 19 years and 35 days

How many 19 year olds would be able to repeat that feat in this day and age

IMO unless you saw Baldock or Stewart live you do not have a true appreciation of how good they actually were.
No film/video I've ever seen actually captures the magic of Baldock or the sublime skills of Stewart.

Having watched them live as well as all the fabulous players who followed them my liat is as follows :-

Baldock
Plugger
Stewart
Harvey
Ditterich
Riewoldt
Barker
Winmar
Smith
Hayes

realised last night that i forgot hamill. he only just misses out on the top ten in my estimation - pretty good for a guy who only played a few full seasons for us.

I'm only putting players since about 1990:

1.) Plugger.... by a long way.... I'll never forget the crowd anytime the man even went near the ball. Was it 1992 when he kicked 132 in 17 or 18 games?

2.) Harvey
3.) Winmar
4.) Burkey
5.) Riewoldt
6.) Hayes
7.) BJ Goddard
8.) Buckets Loewe
9.) Dal Santo
10.) Austin Jones - Dashing down the wing at Waverley... I used to try and base my own game on Aussie... Could never kick the ball as well as him though.

Notable mentions for the greats before 1990: Stewart, Baldock, Barks, Big Carl... you could keep ringing them off really. The saints can put out a best of the best team to rival any of them.

Apologies to Burke, Loewe, Howell, Smith, Neale, Breen, and probably a few more.
Looks about right from my time,Baldock was a brilliant player and the old b&w footage doesnt do justice to his brilliance

G.Burns if was playing in a better era for us would be on many peoples list

On ability as opposed to output:

Lenny
Winmar
Riewoldt
Loewe
Goddard
Dal Santo
Milne
Burkey
Same era so will comment on my own memories and knowledge.

Plugger
Harvey
Roo
Hayes
Winmar
Burke
Loewe
Dal Santo
Goddard
Milne

I expect Dal Santo to overtake a few by the end of his career, possibly Goddard as well.

Plugger kicked 127 in 17 games in 1991. In 1992, he kicked 132 in, I think, 24 games? Not sure, but think he missed a couple that year with injury.

On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

I was eagerly awaiting your contribution BB. You would've seen these guys play live on many occasions (No disrespect re age, old bean). Verdun Howell doesn't get much of a mention elsewhere, but his record, including a Brownlow, stacks up well against the others. Now if only I could find someone who's old enough to have seen Billy Mohr, Roy Cazaly and Dave McNamara play. You still out there, P66?

Thanks for the tip P66. The added bonus is Stinger is back on the forum. If he was around during the Boer War, he might even remember our first game in the VFL!
