Your top ten saints
Watching the magnificent number 7 turn back the clock last night, I started to wonder who were the best ten saints I've ever seen. I'd be interested to know where all of you rank Lenny, as well as the rest of your favourites. Tough call to rank them in order of greatness, but please try. So no entries preceded by, "In no particular order. I've left Stewart and Baldock out of mine as I was too young to have watched them live.
1. Plugger
2. Harvey
3. Winmar
4. Riewoldt
5. Hayes
6. Burke
7. Barker

2. Harvey
3. Winmar
4. Riewoldt

Re: Your top ten saints
I'm too young to have strong memories of Barker he's the guy I had scanlens cards of but cant remember anything but highlight footage. I'm from the Harvey, Winmar, Plugger and Loewe era. So
On ability as opposed to output:
Plugger
Harvey
Lenny
Winmar
Riewoldt
Loewe
Goddard
Dal Santo
Milne
Burkey

Re: Your top ten saints
I love how you had to reply to mine..... Absolutely fixated.
I am a saints man, as my father is, I can read, I have studied our history, watched tapes and understand why people achieve accolades for their achievements......
Harves..... Most decorated player, games record holder, clear number one IMO....21 years, 10 of those he was our best player
Stewart..... Dual brownlow, triple B&F, close to bog in our premiership, best player in our best team
Lockett....... Close to Best player, brownlow, dual B&F, but only 180 games, then 100 in Sydney. Overall career was awesome.Problem with Tony, as good as he was, I think he could/should have been better...had 3 extraordinary years
Lockett...... Best leaders most talented player, only 119 games
Riewoldt ...... 5 B&F, captain, champion of the AFL
Burke ......... 3 B&F 4 times AA, 323 games, captain.
Loewe ........ 321 games, about 600 goals, B&F, captain, 3 AA, CHF, More contested marks than any other player in afl history
Hayes ....... Dual AA, Dual B&F, captain, norm smith
R.Smith ...... Triple B&F in a great era, brownlow medallist
Winmar....... Magician, two B&F and dual AA
Barker, Ditterich, Sam Fisher, Howell were greats
Best saint game I have seen ..... R.Harvey....... vs Bulldogs 1998 I think

Re: Your top ten saints
You do exactly the same but are to arrogant to quote. Others may not pick up the snide remarks but I do. I was just commenting because you didnt put certain players on a list because you hadnt seen then live but you put 3 on where you have only seen 5 minutes of film. And i am glad you can read. And very easy.
Re: Your top ten saints
that's about right.......by the time their careers have finished dal santo and chips may have to be considered.....Verdun66 wrote:1 Baldock

Re: Your top ten saints
Plugger got me back into footy so yes. He was like a one man team after years in the wilderness. He was like a christmas tree with guys hanging off like baubles while he steamed in like a bull and pulled down mark after mark. He was a freak.

and seeing as ive seen more of plugger than i have of stewart and baldock i had plugger higher

i hope youre ok and i havent ruined your sunday morning
Re: Your top ten saints
yeah, i think the question was just whether he was good enough to be both first and third on your list...matrix wrote:well obviously i think he is

We had a good win. Please lighten up. It was a joke because you have him 1st and 3rd. And I have done my top 10 and have Plugger clearly on top.
