Nice work Saints.

Ben seems like a good kid, future leader.

Fisher is such a rock in defence.

Good news.

though i guess in a couple of years they'll be playing ok and might look more enticing...

i'm tipping it here first - at the end of this contract, mcevoy will go to gws.

People probably won't like this. But fisher and Mcevoy are more important than BJ.

The reality is BJ is not a KPP. Fisher is. McEvoy is a ruck men who Is our first choice ruck and is still developing.

BJ Is easier to replace than Mcevoy and fisher. I expect they also demanded less coin. I really hope the club makes BJ a fair offer that isn't an inflated GWS wage. Pay him what he is worth not what the inflated market demands. If he goes we stock up on compo picks and get some quality kids.

Good news.
Read the article and leaves Goddard, Monty, Kosi, Milne, Gram and Lenny unsigned for next year.

I was hoping that the next captain wasn't older than the current one.
Which is exactly why Fisher probably won't be the next captain
I'm pretty certain that Watters stated recently that birth certificates mean nothing (no emoticon used)

Could GWS already be into Joey?

He doesn't get mentioned much, I wonder why given being out of contract at years end seems enough to link someone and write a story?

I cant see why GWS would want a 29 year old player. He may end up somewhere else but I doubt it would be GWS.

I agree with you defacto.
McEvoy was the one i wanted signed the most.
He's 22, we have thin ruck stocks, finals experience, from all reports a strong leader and from what i've seen, just a great bloke.

Sam Fisher truly is a super AFL player...

He is acknowledged as a top player by the generally public/media, but I believe he is in the best 3 or 4 backs in the comp... If not the best... So consistent, skilled, courageous, reliable... Plays tall and small... Just a gem of a player...
And plays a game style that can see him go for many more years...

Wrapped with Ben's signature also.. One of the major keys in our plans for the future and revitalization through youth and the changing of the guard.. He's at the top of that list...

I think the chatter is gws and Gc are both lacking mature brains and bodies, ie 18 Nineteen year olds
Are not going to win anything, need older players to teach by example so Goddard still a possibility maybe.

If Goddard went to the Suns on a 3 year deal as things stand he'd probably be a shot at top 4 in the final year.

GWS are younger and even more raw and will barely crawl to 15th before his time would be up.

Three years just for money is a lot of thankless slog. Three years for less dough in familiar surrounds is far more attractive I'd think.

On reflection - and I do wax and wane a bit on this one - I reckon we are arguably more likely to lose Montagna and/or Gilbert as they'll possibly be seen as expendable.

"The inches we need are everywhere around us. They're in every break in the game. Every minute, every second. On this team we fight for that inch. On this team we tear ourselves and everyone around us to pieces for that inch. We claw with our fingernails for that inch. Because we know when we add up all those inches that's gonna make the f***in' difference between winning and losing! Between living and dying!'

Why?
Because he is the obvious choice to succeed Roo.
dont think they will put a 30yo in as captain
also not sure he would even want the job.

Ditto 'defacto'.................. I couldn't care two hoots about BJ. If he stays I'll think 'oh well' if he goes I'll think 'oh well'. I also reckon he''s easier to cover than the other two.

I'm over the moon about Macca and so relieved that Fisher is tied up. 2 quality individuals as well as good footballers IMHO

Didn't GWS take

A 35yo, 33yo, 32yo, 32yo last. Draft
McDonald, power, brogan, cornes

If anything, I reckon they could do with A-Grade 29-31yo players.....Or their kids will be humiliated for a while longer

Yep and all those guys had retired or been delisted. if they got Joey they would be paying 700k plus. makes you wonder if some people understand the game. They aint going to waste 700k on a 29 year old. Might look back at this post after lenny retires at the end of the year. Far to easy.
