Re: Round 2 extended squads
If they are the only 2 changes you would think Ledger and Winmar will be the ins.

Re: Round 2 extended squads
Good news.
So that's a gauranteed two more new/inexperienced players as ins.
I hope it's Ledger and Simpkin.

Re: Round 2 extended squads
We'd look better on paper if it was 2009.....
Winmar, Newnes......interesting....have not been the best in the VFL or have had the best preparation

I know they were a big rapt for Newnes early in the intraclub games. Winmar not so sure this year.

Re: Round 2 extended squads
Peake has already been omitted according to the Saints website, so we'll see if anyone else from R1 gets cut, or if he's the only one. So far it's only his and Polo's places up for grabs. If P66 is correct, it will be 2 new mids (Ledger and Newnes) for 2 old mids. Winmar and Wilkes might make Emergencies.
St Kilda 25-man squad, against Gold Coast Suns
Round 2, 2012 AFL Toyota Premiership Season
Backs: Geary (14), Gilbert (19), Blake (27)
Half Backs: Cripps (35), Fisher (25), Dempster (24)
Centreline: Dal Santo (26), Hayes (7), Goddard (18)
Half Forwards: Steven (3), Riewoldt (12), Milera (32)
Forwards: Milne (44), Koschitzke (23), Stanley (28)
Followers: McEvoy (5), Jones (4), Montagna (11)
Interchange from: Ledger (15), Newnes (16), Winmar (17), Armitage (2), Ray (22), Simpkin (31), Wilkes (37)
In: Ledger, Newnes, Winmar, Wilkes
Out: Peake (omitted), Polo (suspension)
New: Newnes (Northern Knights)
All that 2nd tier might find that they are not the automatic inclusion that they've been in the past - we'll see how many of them can lift their game now the heat is truly on. Gram, Clarke, Peake, Polo, Armitage, Ray, and you might add Jones, Geary and Blake to that list. Not many taggers of Jones' quality around so you'd think he might avoid the cut. Schneider and Gwilt you'd think will still be auto-inclusions when they return to fitness, so that's only a few spots available.
I doubt that Stanely, Milera and Cripps will play 22 games this year so they could rotate, but most of the other players that I haven't mentioned seem lock-ins barring injury/suspension.
Of course Watters could surprise us and rest a few of our stars in the name of blooding the kids, but it would scream 'rebuild' and contrary to a lot of Saintsational forumites' wishes, he's stated that that's not the route he wants to go down.

Didn't like how he considered Polo to have had a 'good performance' and that it's disappointing to lose him.. Sound like he might be coming back in soon

Well either most supporters who go to the games and watch the games have no idea or Watters does not as Polo is completely useless.mad saint guy wrote:Didn't like how he considered Polo to have had a 'good performance' and that it's disappointing to lose him.. before the draft he was really highly rated. He was on some of the TAC futurestars series and looked like a high draft pick that drifted out. I haven't seen him play for us but if he is as good at senior level as junior he will be a gun. He did some goal kicking against Daicos from memory and didn't disgrace himself. I think he was supposed to go pretty high like late first round, thats from a pretty shaky memory though, but I was excited when I heard we grabbed him from hearing the name come up a bit pre draft.

Re: Round 2 extended squads
I'd swap Simpkin for Geary, leaving a bench of Nicholas Winmar, Tom Ledger, Jack Newnes, Beau Wilkes
Gehrig emerged from scans yesterday saying he was "as sweet as a bun"
Re: Round 2 extended squads
Thought Peake may of got the chop, it was a couple of efforts (or lack of) that really stood out.

How many defenders will The Saints pick in the 2024 draft ?
Re: Round 2 extended squads
The Toms to come in - Simpkin & Ledger. Need to bolster the backline and Tommy Ledger just has to play games.

Yes I believe Polo got 1 vote in the AFL Coaches Award, voted on by the 2 coaches -> but some supporters know betterDr Spaceman wrote:Think Watters has most supporters covered. The Redeemer wrote:Well either most supporters who go to the games and watch the games have no idea or Watters does not as Polo is completely useless.mad saint guy wrote:

Polo was on Pearce for a fair part of the match - how did Pearce go ?
Wilkes written off already, only gets named emergency "for encouragement" according to another SS oracle
No Contract, No contact
Re: Round 2 extended squads
Newnes came a little from left field....scott seems to rate him pretty highly.
Not sure he'll actually get the gig but well done anyway. Hopefully Ross and newnes will have 6 or so games by the end of season.
Simpkin's gotta get a look in sooner or later.

I've never seen a bad St.Kilda player - that's just how they are.

Re: Round 2 extended squads
Newnes has a better chance of playing a game for us than Walsh has of getting a game for the Swines. Thanks Tired Kennelly
