Interesting stats.....and pity that Ledger did not play against PA for whatever reason.

Te other aspect about the PA was that it was by and large the experienced players that let us down.

Likea few I am hoping for about 2 changes...Ledger who unfortunately missed and one other.

Contesed ball was where we were really smashed. So Ledger worth a crack here. as the article says..perhaps Ross given the age profile of GWS.

Our core group have naturally aged a year. It's going to take time for the age demographic to change, once a few older guys retire and some young players become permanent fixtures. You can't expect it to happen over one season. Next year will probably be the same. At a guess it won't be until 2014 that we become one of the younger teams in the league.[/quote]

The team we put out was an average age of 26.8. The next oldest was Geelong at 26.0 and below that 25.3.
We had 9 players who had played under 100 games. Next came the Hawks with 11, then Geelong with 12.
Average number of games played per man was 120, Geelong around 100, Hawks just under.

These figures confirm that Watters' team selection was nowhere near as youth-focussed as most of us thought before the game.

IMO there is room for 2 more newbies at the expense of two of the mid-range battlers for next week...

That would reduce our average age to just over 26 yo, average no. of games to around 110 and increase the number of players with under 100 AFL games under their belt to 11. Which would still leave us top in all of those 'experience' stats.[/quote]

How is that not a start on changing the guard?

Do we want to really want to compromise the ability to win games by throwing in too many new kids at the one time?

2 more additions to at the max. Anymore and we are pushing it.

Hate to say it but you might find that you will get Ledger and Wilkes in for Polo and Ray. So you will only get 1 real newbie so to speak. Ross would be next in line as a hard in and under player. Wilkes would come in to play up forward and Ledger in the middle or off the half back flank.

But Port are rebuilding, how do we compare to teams that have been up and about for a few years?

Geelong FIVE players with a total of 31 games
Collingwood SEVEN players with a total of 34 games
Hawthorn four players with a total of 37 games

even by bringing in Stanley, Steven (not really new faces), Milera and Cripps - all but one are comfortably into their twenties.

defintiely need to bring in Simpkin, Ledger, Saad, and Siposs. and we've got to give Wilkes a go at full forward. Armo has too come on in the middle or he's out. Jones is our tagger.

sure this will happen but eager to see asap.
