Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Gee I like the look of Milera. Admittedly he hasn't had a lot of it, but every time he touches it something good happens.
Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Umpiring seems poor, but I'll admit, maybe I'm just a little hypo.
Great second quarter.
Class from Dal and Goddard.
On ya big Kosi.
Nice composure from Jones, was really happy to see him kick the goal.
Feels like Saints have really settled the game down, regardless of the result, playing into some form IMO

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
That has happened a fair bit in the game. The ground is pretty spongey so the ball is getting caught in the grass a bit.sainter#4 wrote:that kick was actually half decent, it was the bounce which demolished us. Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
The bounces are certainly against us today. On three occasions we've looked to be in the best position, only for the ball to bounce in an unusual way and straight away from us and into their laps.

8 goals in a half of footy... refreshing.... Attack Saints!! Use the speed of Milera/Stanley apparently we are hurting them on the fast break

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Stanley is going to be very useful with all the space over the back so much these days.

Agree with all the above , but must add Jones is killing us !!!! Oh and Polo also ...MC Gusto wrote:geez we work hard for goals
roo is awol
kosi is even greater awol! how does he keep managing to run under the ball?
good signs by stanley and milera.
umps are killing us
strong in tackling but still very poor delivering into the fwd 50
Yep first game and everything but we need blokes who can use the ball not taggers who do nothing except turn it over , haet it but cringe everytime they go near it !
Jack Newnes happy to be a Saint !!!! PS and to hit a target !!!
Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
I scroll through a couple of pages and I see people bagging players.
Just back off I reckon, they are working into form, it's playing out pretty much how we expected isn't it....a little rusty and a game behind everyone else?
Admittedly the game was a bit too open, but they've adjusted things now, and I can see what they are trying to achieve with belting a few more kicks in the goal direction.
Enjoy the ride, it's a long season.
Go Saints!

This is why Sipposs is a compulsory inclusion in the side(if he is ok?). Long kicks over the back,Milne,Schneider,Stanley to run onto it.
Bring back the Lockett era

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Have to get better in clearances... How much do we rely on Hayes?
Geary mentioned a bit
Milera's touches seem quality HAS to be played now - has the skills
Riewoldts a worry...

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Disappointed that when we got level with them, earlier in the quarter, we didn't go on with it. That was a huge issue under Lyon (we'd come from behind and get even, then try to close the game down instead of pulling away) so hopefully Scott wil encourage them to keep on attacking when they have a run on.

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Great to see the intensity lift in that quarter and some real purpose in possessions going forward. Having players moving ahead and around the ball helps and the players really clicked into gear. Disposal still a concern and the midfield needs to get on top (understatement). Weight of numbers hopefully continues and leads to that.
Kosi is looking a lot fresher and I'm liking Stanley backing himself a little when he gets the ball. Slowly learning to use his body to advantage as well.

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Lovin Stevens' game. 6 tackles to half time and 11 touches. It's actually pretty tough in the clinches however we're getting dominated out of the centre....and then we're dominating them on the rebound.
Gotta stop Cornes and Hartlet around the middle...that's where the game will be won IMO. As good as they've been, White Maggot BOG for them.
Our backs aren't looking too bad. Geary very good and Gilbert, Fisher and Blake have been reasonable.
As far as the young guys go: Milera only 5 touches however every touch has been quality - A keeper. Cripps looks a bit out of his depth and has taken a battering in the contests. Needs to find space and use his pace. Stanley very impressive. He's created a goal and kicked one himself. He hasn't been pushed out of contests like we've seen over the last few years. I've mentioned Steven. Armo needs to lift. He'd be one to make way if we lose and if he continues to have little output.

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
We need to stick more tackles in the packs. They're just taking us on and breaking our tackles too easily. Could this be due to some of those in our midfield reportedly slimming down a bit this pre-season? It might help us to run out games, but cost us in close, if so.

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Positives:
Milera looking pretty good when he gets it.
Gilbert looking a lot better than last year.
Kosi looking pretty good.
Geary, steven and stanley playing well.
milne starting to get involved
Negatives:
Roo not at his best, although he has improved as the game has gone on.
Getting beaten in the ruck
Defence is shown to be weak to tall forwards when the opposition move the ball in fast.
Armitage hasn't taken the next step I hoped he would, steven is way ahead now.

Re: Game Thread vs Port Adelaide
Gee can't seem to get our hands on the ball at the moment. Ports had a few forward entries already and now they've kicked a goal.
