Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!

Fyfe impressive.
Pav doesnt miss when it counts.
Ballantyne a smuck but played well.
I don't doubt they will play good footy this year, strong more contested footy, it's just if they can sustain that intensity.
Millys seems to think so
“@RobMillsyMills: #Fremantle what a game. Ones to watch this year. Lyon, maybe he is a good coach, St Kilda just had no heart?”
what a B grade pretend celbrity he's turned out.
And how's his clubs heart? loads of "heart" at Freo over the years.
Lyon would want to move quickly.......Sandilands aint a kid and neither is Pavlich...though I admit....Pavlich looks like hes moving better than Riewoldt.

Re: If Lyon was our coach
Two minutes to play - Freo 10 (or similar) points up.
But instead of chipping backwards/sidewards "tempo" footy - they kept attacking.
In fact very little tempo footy throughout the whole game.
Has Lyin changed his whole strategy?
Are Freo not versatile enough to play that style?
Were we not good enough to sustain an attacking style?
Certainly the Freo gameplan looked nothing like the Lyin StK gameplan.

Re: If Lyon was our coach
Unfortunately Freo will go better this year because they are unlikely to sustain the same horror run with injuries. Ross is likely to bask in others glory and we should be prepared for the fawning to start when he gets them up and about. Harvey would have gone ok too but was knifed.

Thought the same thing watching the game. Only one round so will have to wait till round 7-8 to make any sort of call on this one. No teams have tried for any real tempo footy yet, but early days.

Re: If Lyon was our coach
Take a peek at "Dockerland" to see how those folks out west are pumping up their own tyres. Only natural I guess in view of the result. However, it would be wise for them to wait a wee while before booking flights to Melbourne for the GF! I was amazed at the way Geelong let that Ballantyne suck them in (a-la Scarlett) very un-Geelong like. The points made about Sandilands and Pavlich are pretty much on the money. Personally, I'm not unhappy to see Lyon at Freo and have a much more optimistic outlook about the future recruitment/development of talent at St Kilda. If we need to take a wee step back this year, in order to make a full tilt at the flag in a season or two then that doesn't bother me too much either.

The thing that was infectious about Freo was the enthusiasm they had. If Lyon was still here we wouldn't be fronting up with the same gusto as them. I hope we want to play for Scott they way they were playing last night, even if we lose it is easy to watch.

Just me or does Lyon step into a ready made team with a few tweaks needed again? Hope that he doesn't leave the Freo list in the same shape he tried to leave us!

Re: If Lyon was our coach
I'm not sure if it's just me, but the unholy haste in which Lyon was ready to jump into a dead man's shoes (a-la Mark Harveys demise) speaks volumes about the man. I hated the negative aspects of his gameplan, but can't be hypocritical enough to say that I also hated the results it achieved! If the guy had stayed with us, then I would have been ok with that. He decided to do what he did and I'm also ok with that, as I believe we stand on the threshold of something exciting for the club. I prefer to judge Lyon's performance as coach at Fremantle come the pointy end os 2012. Incidentally, what did everyone think seeing Dawson collect Stokes in that last 1/4? I reckon we're better off without him. That challenge could have gone very badly for Freo.

Re: If Lyon was our coach
Freo will play finals and push for top 4. Ross Lyon is a brilliant coach. Was on display last night. Peope say Ross is a 1 trick pont. But i have no doubt that he has penty more ideas up his sleeve. It hurts.

Dawson leaving his man and running 60m to knock Stokes out of a contest that would have resulted in a certain goal for Geelong saved the game for Freo.thejiggingsaint wrote: Incidentally, what did everyone think seeing Dawson collect Stokes in that last 1/4? An heroic act in a team displaying a frenzied un-Freo like level of intensity for their new coach.
Re: If Lyon was our coach
similar thing to what he did in the 2009 grand final. though that turned out badly through no real fault of his.crippa2sipa wrote:Dawson leaving his man and running 60m to knock Stokes out of a contest that would have resulted in a certain goal for Geelong saved the game for Freo.
