Re: The Virus and Wilkes selected
Am surprised with Polo and Ray tbh just not sure what either have done pre season and development wise.....are they the future?
That said, they are mature, large bodied and you cant play all kids...
Peake would need to deliver IF players like Milera are going to miss....if.

Think it's the Canberra comp, or something equally unglamorous.8856brother wrote:What league will Tommy play in when he is not playing seniors at the Swans?joffaboy wrote:Walsh missed out again.

I reckon its Milne, Riewoldt or bust for us in terms of goals.
Ive watched schneider go awol on quite a few occasions.
With Milne's interstate record....................Ive no idea where goals are gonna come from...

Really hope you're looking good for hat-trick by the end of Sunday! Missed all but the last two months of last season so it will be interesting to see how he goes through a full year (touch wood!).SainterK wrote:So happy for Geary, make the most of your opportunity JJ

Re: The Virus and Wilkes selected
more of a worry is how tall and strong over head their forward line is
Schultz 193cm huge marking power
Westoff 199cm and strong overhead but can be forced off the ball in packs or one on one
Butcher 197cm and could be anything ... big hype
Add in Daniel Stewart 200cm who will float in and out with Redden their 205cm ruck as a deep forward behind the leading Schultz
For mine our match ups are:
Schultz - Blake
Westoff - Gilbert
Butcher - Fisher
Stewart / Redden - Kossie
This leaves our team looking like this:
Kossie Blake Geary
Dempster Fisher Gilbert
Montagna Hayes Dal Santo
Goddard Riewoldt Milera
Milne McEvoy Steven
Stanley (needed to combat the 205cm leaping Redden)
Jones
Ledger
Int: Ray, Armitage, Peake Sub: Cripps
Or of we wish to stretch the Port backline and sacrafice some run:
Kossie Blake Geary
Dempster Fisher Gilbert
Montagna Hayes Dal Santo
Goddard Riewoldt Steven
Milne Wilkes McEvoy
Stanley (needed to combat the 205cm leaping Redden)
Jones
Ledger
Int: Ray, Armitage, Peake Sub: Milera
But I believe that this team would be too top heavy

As far as Polo goes, I'm thinking no?

Re: The Virus and Wilkes selected
Not sure either are a replacement for Schneider...
In that case I'd prefer to see Cripps in starting line up for Gram and Milera starting for Schneider (I think as a link player Milera pace/ball use into fwd 50 could be huge... I know he's new... but he's not 18...)
I might keep Ray up my sleeve but I'd be looking to Ross before Polo...this year IMO is all fast track development

I think Milera may play, and Cripps is my pick for the sub....
Just saying I'm not sure Polo would of made the squad if the other two were fit?

Of course he shouldnt. Very poor if true. Hopefully isnt.[/quote]
I imagine port are stalking the facebook pages of all relatives just in case it helps their match ups. What would be bad is if it gets leaked onto a fan forum that some port folks might be checking. They are more likely to find this thread than a facebook page. Maybe you should all just chill.

Re: The Virus and Wilkes selected
I think he will play a mix of old and new unless we look like missing finals, then we will see heaps of young guys every week. I would play Cripps as the sub a role he played really well last season. Milera should be rewarded for form unless injured.Teflon wrote:Not sure either are a replacement for Schneider...

Re: The Virus and Wilkes selected
I'll guess at interchange of Blake, Armo, Cripps with Milera as sub...
I'm slightly disappointed, I'd have named Blake on the field in the BP with one of Peake or Ray at HBF... The other in the VFL... Wouldnt have Polo anywhere near the squad of 25...
With an interchange of Armo, Cripps, Sippos and Milera...
A little inexperienced, sure, but the added experience of one of Peake or Ray would add nothing... Collingwood set to play 3 debutants I believe... Up against a strong bodied, confident, Hawthorn... With a good crop of players also under 50 games... No concerns on their behalf.. Should throw ours boys in as well...

I would think Blake would start on the ground. Also Ledger, Cripps, Siposs and Milera are either debutants ot less than 5 games so what is the difference. if you play anymore then they would probably have to miss out. You cant have 5 or 6 guys in the one side with less than 5 games experience. Well I dont think you can and I am unsure who else could have played apart from Simpkin and he has nothing to do with Peake or Ray.

s***. I tipped Hawthorn.

I'm pretty sure they want to win... Picking a side that they think can best do that... Which includes a few bigger (more experienced) names in the VFL...
The theory thrown around of 'we should focus on winning the game first, then blood some youth', is rubbish...
The focus can be both, at the same time...

And we have. We have potential 5 players with less than 10 games playing Sunday. Apart from Simpkin who else deserved a game. You dont just give them away. Obviously the young pies players had a good pre season. Who would you replace Peake and Ray with?
Re: The Virus and Wilkes selected
Patrick Keane@AFL_PKeane
Final Sunday team StK v Port – Cripps into 18. Bench; Armitage, Blake, Milera, Polo. Emerg – Siposs, Ray, Wilkes.

Ray is a good enough player. Hardly a world beater however is good overhead and is decent by foot.SainterK wrote:Though would they be in with a fit Gram/Schneider?Teflon wrote:Am surprised with Polo and Ray tbh just not sure what either have done pre season and development wise.....are they the future?

Polo can pack his bags now and not return to the club. I will be livid if he is playing this weekend.
I want to see Milera debut and the proverbial scene is set. A crappy opposition is a good opportunity to at least get a feel for the game.

Polo?!!... Selected ahead of Ray?..SainterK wrote:Patrick Keane@AFL_PKeane

Shocked.
Very happy to see Milera in, however his is more than likely the sub coming from that bench, so probably wont get much gametime..

I am reminded of the Tom Waits song 'What's he building in there?'

Re: The Virus and Wilkes selected
I thought the "rules" (or whatever) said that those named in the starting 18 on the Thursday were definite ins, with the final four interchange players named from the extended bench of seven. Obviously Ray has been taken out of the starting 18 for Cripps, and I remember Archer was taken out of the starting 18 before the Round 3 game last year - I haven't seen this happen otherwise though? Is there actually a rule that says anything like that?
