Not sure if problem is physical or mental.
Don't you think it might freshen his outlook up, to not be the main avenue to goal?
No I can honestly say playing Rooy anywhere but forward is basically saying our time is up and we are in a complete rebuild especially as we have no idea if he can even play anywhere else.
whiskers3614 wrote:Not totally certain but seem to recall Barry Lawrence struggling up forward going to backline, finding form then playing both ends as required.
Yep and I am pretty sure Barry Lawrence didnt win 5 B&F up forward.
Well aware of 5 B&Fs @ CHF
But Gram nearly won Norm Smith and people don't want him in 22
Not saying drop Riewoldt but 2011 form was poor by his standards
Riewoldt and Goddard to live up to their reputations ,Clarke and Ray to defy theirs in 2012!

NO!

Reckon they smile when he runs about 3km takes a mark 40metres out and misses by a mile'
and when he marks 70 out on the boundary and can't see a tall forward to kick to.

So is that his fault is it? Imagine what our forward would look like without him there.

Didnt even make top 50 for karl langdon.
And yes people are going to reply 'what would he know/ hes an idiot" etc etc etc/
But everyone outside die hard saints pretty much dont rate riewoldt at all anymore

Another 'big' atatement Con.
Is that just your opinion or fact?
Either way, I'd be willing to bet that 17 coaching panels spend a reasonable amount of time during the week they're due to play us concentrating on trying to negate his influence.
I hope your 'big' statement is correct and opposition teams don't bother to 'double team' Roo or fill in the space in front of him now that he is apparently not 'rated' anymore.
And BTW, Langdon couldn't find room in his Top 50 for either Riewoldt or Jonathan Brown.
But 'superstars' of the game named Beams, Scott Selwood and Shuey manage to impress him sufficiently to appear on his list.
Good OP Con. There have been few whose star has shone as bright as rooy's at our club, but the reality is that it is inevitable that each and every players time in the game is limited. Let's not be blinded by past glories when it comes to our teams stars.
Roo deserves every opportunity to continue as our CHF. I am confident that Watters will give Roo the CHF position and then rotate him at FF with Kosi, Stanley and maybe also Wilkes. Not always easy to be discussing that Rooy's time in the game and more relevantly, that his peak form may be behind him. Hopefully he has a big year and so does the team...my biggest fear is that perhaps Rooy's form will also be the barometer for whether the team needs a total re-build.
I think it's ridiculous to suggest that without Roo in our forward line we might as well start rebuilding, as we have shown numerous times in the past couple of years that we can function just as well, if not better, AS A TEAM, when he isn't in there, especially when we get used to him not being there. In 2010 for instance, we got to the point where we were probably going just as well without him there (when he was out for months with his torn hammy) and some of the only times in this pre-season where we've looked any good AS A TEAM have been when he's not been in there. (Eg, the Geelong game and in parts of the last quarter against WC, when he had been subbed off).
Not because those in there in his absence are better than him, because they're not, but just because we seem to play a lot smarter AS A TEAM when he's not there. It's no longer mainly just mindless "lets bomb it to Nick, even if he has 4 on him and is on the boundary line". Him not being there actually makes them all THINK about where it's actually BEST to kick it, for a second and that regularly pays dividends.
The great benefit of him not being in the forward line, but actually playing somewhere else, though, would be that we would get to make use of his outstanding skills in another area of the ground. So the forward line may function just as well without him (as it has many times in the past two years) and we'd get the added bonus of him possibly dominating in another position (because CHB, or the wing, for instance, are generally regarded as easier to play than CHF). So it could be like our current team, with him forward, but with the added bonus of adding a genuine "A-grade gun" in another part of the ground.
I also agree with the opinion of others like Chris Grant that getting out of the forward line (if he continues to not be at his best) could be extremely good for him mentally and free him up to just play footy again, instead of feeling like he's go the weight of the world on his shoulders and carrying our whole forward line and liklihood of kicking a winning score, which seems to be the case of late. Then, if he does free up and get his "mojo" back, playing somewhere else, that would be the time to throw him forward again, to capitalise on his return to his old confident self. I would have no hesitation in doing that if he doesn't show that he's back close to his best very soon (unless we're dominating anyway and there's no need to).

Heard from some that Roo missed a few today
Haven't watched the replay yet of todays game but...is it time for that rebuild plugger?

No. Why didnt you ask that question straight after the Essendon game?
That goal Roo kicked against Essendon, which was absolutely amazing, wasn't at a point in the game when the match was in the balance...we were already comfortably in front.
I haven't watched the game yet, but have been told by family and friends that; "Roo missed a few in the 2nd half when the game was there to be won!"
Why did we continue to make the same mistakes when we dominated the inside 50's and time played in our forward half in the 3rd and 4th quarter? As captain and as onfield leader and general of his forward line, shouldn't he be helping with set ups, teamwork, and planning who will be the leading targets?
Reading a few threads on here, I also got the impression that some think Roo was playing injured. Did he have an injury before the game started or after he got smashed by Kosi. At what point in the game was the collision with Kosi?
I love Nick. He gives his all, every week, yet people love to knock him. His knee is stuffed, dont expect it to get better, it wont. Its about management. I doubt he will play as long as Lenny. He may only have a year or two left in him Its tragic for a player like Roo. Hes a great athlete though, why would you stop him running? I dont have the answer, just know its a crying shame.
