Carving a new era- article
>>>>>>Watters has helped instil a fresh resolve and reminded his players at their season launch this week that they ''chase something, that we are not anchored to the past, learn from it, drag something from it, but understand that time moves on''.
Riewoldt, in top condition after post-season knee surgery last year, said his team was ready for battle in next week's season-opener against Port Adelaide.
''We finished off the season really well last year,'' he said. ''Hopefully, we can carry some of that form through into this year. I am as ready as anyone.''
Watters also used his speech to claim there were those outside the club who had been trying to ''pigeon hole'' the playing group. Essendon great and Age expert Matthew Lloyd is one who believes the Saints won't make the finals this season.
''It's our responsibility to defy [that view],'' Watters said. ''It's our responsibility to compete. It's our responsibility to show a level of teammanship that drives this club. The challenge thrown to the playing group is to forge a new pathway.''

still think we should go for a shipping company as a sponsor given all the see views we are able to use- from Docklands to Frankston and beyond-- or maybe a cruise liner--- Now those raffle prizes would be nice.

First David Kin & now the velvet pole-smoker has written us off... The only remaining absolute super-brain left would be Doug Hawkins, wonder what he thinks?

Where do you buy velvet poles
Like to get one for Lyon
Purple velvet would suit him I think.

Add Scott Lucas, Matthew Lloyd, Dermott Brereton and Robert "conflict of interest, I have no credibility" Walls to the list of those predicting we will fall down the ladder and not make the 8. Who cares. It's irrelevant.Middo wrote:dragit wrote:First David Kin & now the velvet pole-smoker has written us off... Robert Walls ...?
Holder of unacceptable views and other thought crimes.
Re: Carving a new era- article
Didn't Lloyd come out mid season last year claiming we had absolutely no chance of making the finals?
Even going so far as to breaking down which games we will win and lose for the remainder of the season.
Worked out well for him?
At the end of the day these "experts" are just speculating like every other man and his dog who follow football.
This year the fashionable opinion is that we are heading for a slide down the ladder. Much like Geelong last year.

Re: Carving a new era- article
Haven't heard him speak since last year's GF, but Leigh Matthews, for one, said, around prelim finals time last year, that he expected us to be very competitive again this year. Dennis, Bruce and (knobjacket) Harley all said Fremantle were better placed for 2012 than us, but Matthews disagreed.
I know whose opinion I value more, between Matthews, Lloyd, King, Walls. Matthews beyond any shadow of doubt. I'll be quite interested to see what he says this year, whether or not he still rates us.
